Hey @SamF thanks for the prompt reply.

I thought as much. Given the sync speeds are fairly good and my line attenuation is good it's hard to know if the CRC errors are actually posing as a problem. Internet is definitely fas[er] than my ADSL2 connection.

Guess we'll wait and see wht happens each day. I've been taking screenshots each morning when I wake up to ensure that I can monitor any change.

NP :)

Good plan on the screenshots - it will give snap some more ammo to go back to Chorus with.

Interesting you're on DLM-1 (1ms latency) with that error rate, normally a CRCPM (per minute) of 10 is the maximum. Then again, it's early days yet! :)

Hey @SamF

I notice with other screenshots in this thread, the latency line actually has a figure as opposed to "fast". Is that a firmware update that changes that?

I'm reading this thread through from the beginning and am up to page 35 so far... so maybe I'll come across a post that talks about that.

Makes for some light Friday night reading.

The latest firmware shows "fast". That seems to correspond to 0ms. So it looks like you're on DLM-1. However your sync rate is a little low for DLM-1 with your attenuation and as Sam said your spectrum is not great. Compare yours to my spectrum on the 8b profile - I have very similar attenuation and am also about 100m from the cabinet. I was getting about 45 Mbps:

Port died when the technician was checking the line. He then replaced the port. DLM-1 with low errors for just under a day! and then down to DLM-2. Sigh. Cant be bothered sacrificing 3-10 megabit of speed by upping SNR.

I got a bit unlucky, the weather here is crap and there's been quite a bit of flooding around my house, so after a resync early morning a few days ago I was changed on to DLM-2 and my sync rate was decreased.

Had a 2 second power cut yesterday too, although there wasn't much of a difference after that like everyone else has noticed after a power cut.

@Jexlar: Bummer man. What was your CRCPM rate while on DLM1?

Have you thought about increasing the TSNRM a couple of notches? IMO with the limits of international bandwidth dropping a few megabits isn't a big deal for the improved latency of DLM1. Power cuts don't help though :( DLM just seems too sensitive to unexpected outages like that.

cant say i ever have an issue maxing my line to my dedis in NL (talking 300~330ms here), to be fair though, i can tweak the tcpip stack on both ends..

a month or so back, snap said they did some minor changes and updates, from that point, maxing the line hasnt been hard at all, whatever the changes that were made, seems to work out pretty good..

powercuts, flatmates.. big contributing factors to DLM unfortunately.. its actually pretty impressive to see the difference the weather makes to vdsl..

Sure but is that single threaded? (EDIT: Ah ok I see that's with TCP tweaks so I guess yes it is single thread)

Day to day I can max line easily from pretty much anywhere in the world with multiple threads. Or I guess with TCP tweaks or UDP, etc.     Or local\australia content\cache - was hitting 5.2 MB/s on a steam download last night. Yes whatever their tweak was it was awesome for steam, linux isos, etc.

- but honestly when doing that sort of thing is ~3 Mbps on 30/40+ Mbps going to make much difference?

For me I'd probably take the extra 16ms latency even if I had to drop throughput for it (and I did this in the past - spent ages on TSRNM = 14 to get on DLM1 initially)

yes, single threaded, multiple threads wouldn't be a fair argument at all..

your talking a whole like 350KB/s! thats so much! lul...

Yeah, max I have had on steam download is 5.2 as well, it's great!

Bummer, 1.1km. I had hoped for a bit more upstream though. Prequel estimated 16Mbps down and 6Mbps up, which is within the speed guidelines for VDSL. Attenuation showing very high, was originally about 10dB back in DSL1 days, but has crept up over the last year :(

Yup, pretty much same as my ADSL2+ stats

Bummer!

I'm guessing your internal wiring is fine? :P
