With attenuation as low as you had I'm surprised you had such low sync speeds on ADSL.

Hi,
Yes, I have had this conversation with telecom many times and they have told me that this is a very good connection speed and that there could be a number of things affecting the line. Based on the content I have found I too would have thought a higher sync speed but it never did change.

My initial sync speed on VDSL was 44mbps and that is with 11db downstream attenuation. I now have 48.885mbps and DLM-1 after 3-4 weeks.

just got my vdsl2 connected today. I'm a little confused with my line. It seems that with the installation of the vdsl2 connection my attenuation has risen significantly. I have very little understanding exactly why this is but I believe it may be affecting my chances of being on a slightly higher sync speed.

VDSL shows higher attenuation because it uses higher frequencies. Higher frequencies attenuate faster with distance. My attenuation went from 2db on ADSL to 4-5db on VDSL.

Your connection looks normal to me at this point. You should see increased speeds and reduced latency in the next 10 days or so as DLM does it's thing.

Well thanks all for you're quick replies. It seems the best thing I can do at this time is wait out the 10 days and monitor any changes in the line. Thanks for the support and I'll post back any changes that occur over next 10 days.

I'm just waiting for my new wire to be put in from my demarc lol. Honestly the wire that runs to my modem, looks like it should be speaker wire (I'm seriously not kidding). So it should be a significant improvement :)

Just a Quick +1 for CoffeeBaron who installed a master filter at my house this morning.

Instant fix, much better over all. Great guy and very helpful.

Would recommend to anyone who is considering it as he did a great job.

Our connection swapped to VDSL at 5pm yesterday so we've been connected for about 17 hours, however we didn't get PPPoE to Snap until 7.45am today as someone provisioned the service incorrectly.

This is a Naked VDSL connection, however it is plugged into a dedicated outlet as we had an ADSL master filter installed about 10 years ago. The chorus technician replaced the old filter with a VDSL filter yesterday. We're about 350-400m from the cabinet.

Error rate looks a bit high. Internal cabling is that 2-pair stuff, currently goes from the demarc into the cavity behind a wall outlet where it's scotchlocked and then heads off to the outlet. I had intended to replace the cabling from the demarc to the outlet as this would probably cut 5-7m from the run. Am I best to do this now or wait until the 10-day period is up?

Hi Kraven,

I'd do the cabling ASAP. That error rate is very high and will drop you off DLM-1 pretty quickly (probably overnight tonight). IMO it's best to get your cabling sorted sooner rather than later to bet the best possible DLM status.

Hi there, I'm just wondering if there is any specific reason you have 5ms latency. I'm located less than 50m from the cabinet and my latency is 26ms. Thanks

A lot of things could contribute to that. DLM level is one (1ms profiles vs 8ms vs 16ms) Location also - where about are you in country. Distance from cabinet won't really contribute I don't think. I'm around 550 - 650m from cabinet, but on DLM1 and in Auckland - I also get 5-6ms latency.

@sidefx: The latency test is to a local server based here in auckland. It says im less than 50mil but my latency is always 26ms.

Also I've found there's a difference in latency on speedtest with firefox vs chrome:
Get about 10ms on chrome and 5ms on firefox.

Does anyone in Auckland have a spare VDSL modem floating around?
I got it installed today but have yet to purchase a modem. Rang Telecom to ask whether they sell the TG589vn at retail stores and was told they do.
Went to the St Lukes one today after the install was completed, only to be told they don't sell them.
Am currently running off of 3G since the line won't sync on ADSL2+ any more. :(
