RickW: Hay guys we have just recently joined snap for vdsl and voip and are looking for any advice of how to increase our speed. From the demarc box on the side of the house we have a single cat 6 cable going to a dedicated rj45 jack that the fritzbox is connected to. the chorus tech said that we are about 400m from the roadside cabinet but our sync rates are only 20 down and 6 up. Here are the line stats. Any advice is appreciated.

@RickW: How is the cat6 cable wired in with everything else? (i.e. is everything else disconnected?)

that line attenuation is way to high. i am surprised chorus actually went ahead with the install. limit for vdsl install is 10.8dB

Recently got VDSL2, I went from ADSL2 @ 12 Mbps down to 18 Mbps down / 9 Mbps up and after having VDSL for a week, the guy from Chorus finally came today and installed the splitter (also had to get an electrician to replace some cabling) and didn't make much of a difference (went from 18 to 19 Mbps). I was hoping to get more of a speed boost, anything jump out as a problem?

@RickW: Sorry, just to confirm, there are no other cables/jackpoints connected at all. So the incoming pair connects directly to cat6 cable and nothing else, which runs straight to your RJ45?

If that's the case (sounds like it is) then I'd say you've either got a lot more than 400m of cable to your cabinet... or something is wrong outside your property (or rather somewhere between the demarc and cabinet)

after we were switched to vdsl our line attenuation jumped from 11 to 22 is that normal to have that big of a jump

It's normal to have an increase, but that's more than I expect. I'd expect something around 15-17 db. From the graphs the higher frequencies seem to be particularly attenuated. Maybe there's a lot more cable between you and the cabinet or perhaps there's an issue with that cable.

If there is nothing else on the line then that won't make any difference. If you do get one installed get the tech to double check everything, though I suspect the issue is outside your property.

If Snap ran a pre-qual test on your lines they should be able to pull those records and tell you how much you 'had' (give or take), before you went onto VDSL. This should give your a fair representation of what it should be now. If they see a significant difference it should be more than a reasonable request for them to investigate what the issue is. Likely problem is a faulty port. Or you could simply be further from the cabinet (in regards the which way the cable runs in your local loop) in cable length than expected.

Can anyone clarify this please? Most of the comments in this thread refer to a figure in the low to mid teens being normal/acceptable. Or is this statement talking about something else?

What I think hes most likely referring to is the current Attenuation? mid-high 'teen' attenuation is acceptable while on VDSL. Not before someone goes onto it. This is because of the jump in attenuation when you go onto VDSL. Degrading the service for others aswell.

So while he had approximately 11dB attenuation down (seriously boarderline for going onto VDSL) before he went onto VDSL, hes now on 22dB which is very high.... I really do mean that too..

EDIT: Another correction, I mean low-mid teens for attentuation
