vhunt3r: I just signed up with Orcon and they are saying that ONT will need to be the router and it can't be put into bridged mode.
Guess will check with Chorus on install day.
It absolutely can be ONT/RGW or bridged mode as far as Chorus is concerned. If its bridged then only the multigig (1,2.5,5,10G) port is used. The ISP has to order it in the appropriate mode, but it can be changed.
You may find that orcon have made the call to only support RGW mode.
Makes sense given the product.... there is very few CPE's available that will route it, with the majority requiring RJ45 SFP+ modules.
I'm still waiting on there being a serious option available from Mikrotik on the lower end...

from a previous post from someone who has it
It is bridgeable but I was told you have to contact your ISP to arrange with Chorus to make the necessary changes on their end.

leadtime on making changes like that are still pretty tough. you got to go capture the hamster and put in in the wheel ;)

Chorus is actually pretty good at this, we normally have such logical changes done same day (talking as an RSP).
I suspect (just a guess) the Orcon product team will have specified only ONT/RGW because as has been pointed out there is close to no RGW's on the market (less than 1k anyway) that will actually work properly at 4Gb/s. The Nokia ONT however will so it solves the issue of Joe customer with his home supplied router complaining that they are not getting full speed.
vhunt3r: Well I did ask Orcon sale and he transferred me to their technical department who said they can't put do bridgeable on ONT.
Guess will call once have a install date and check again. Seems they don't have great knowledge of hyperfibre product yet.
MyRepublic told me that they allow me to use the ONT under bridge mode. Just call them and they can change it remotely.
I am going to use MikroTik CR2004-1G-12S+2XS. Good price with reasonable performance.
vhunt3r: I have a custom untangle GW box with 10gb Nics and 10gb Netgear switch. So will let them first get it setup as per norm and then request changes afterwards to put ONT into bridged mode.
The NAT performance of GW box is far away from a real 10Gbps router, unless you tweak the kernel etc...

RB4011 is about as cheap as you'll probably ever get for a while - the performance of that is pretty impressive for the price, and it can get close to 10Gbps with fast track enabled. I haven't done any extensive testing though and suspect it would start to bog down pretty quickly though if you loaded it up with rules.

eong: it doesn’t allow me to quote anymore.
The appointment is next Monday. We will find out how good/bad it is. :)
it will, you just probably have more than 2 quotes selected
