sbiddle: I'm genuinely interested to see what the Commerce Commission say which is why I keep repeating myself like a stuck record..

Given how you persist with the ComCom line, you also seem to genuinely believe people want any answer other than the Magical Speed Fairy to come and MagicFast their interwebs for free ;)

Can't you just click the upgrades button omg.

I'm specifically talking about streets like Pacific Drive, Fitzherbert. This is an urban area and not a part of the UFB rollout.

Haven't explained as it's not an easy answer... On one hand it's not the fault of the community (that congestion is worsening) nor is it the responcibilty of the community to fund business interests, so why when there are taxpayer funded upgrades happening all around us should we the community pay. On the other hand we are paying for UFB / RBI (DSL) upgrades that for some reason we have been excluded from, why, who drew the lines on the maps and decided that Outram or the many other areas i.e. Warrington, Middlemarch, Karitani, East of Manawatu etc should be left out.

You are making sense here, but I think you probably already know the actual answer...

The community (in fact everyone in the country) is already subsidising your RBI build, but in your case, the RBI is a wireless solution.

What you appear to be most upset about is that the aspects of your situation (number of customers, existing coverage, cost of upgrades etc) merited an RBI Wireless solution instead of an RBI (DSL) upgrade.

I know you must understand that there are always going to be situations where what technology is chosen will be a close call. You have to understand that the people who "drew the lines on the maps" had a vast amount more information than you do, especially when it comes to comparing all locations around the country where those tough decisions had to be made.

As an RSP, we'd love everyone in the country to have Fibre - but unfortunately that's just not possible. Just saying "upgrade the backhaul" or whatever might be a bit disingenuous. Even if it's simple, it may not be cheap. Even if it's not wildly expensive, it may in fact be a MONEY LOSING proposition that Chorus won't get funding for because the funding for your areas is already spent on RBI Wireless.

Agreed... one wonders how much a cabinet upgrade is on Cranton Road (10 houses <800m) just out of town would be compared to a backhaul upgrade as was suggested by otheres here before for the township (282 houses <800m). Also if Wireless RBI was the only solution circled then the exchange will become loss making as users migrate off it onto other service solutions, I sure as a business Chorus will know exactly how much each exchange/cabinet etc is costing to run.

In relation to areas that er missed out, I can understand 15-20 houses around Woodside West of Outram having no upgrade other than Woreless RBI as there is no cabinet (that I know of) and is a long copper run from anywhere so DSL signal would be so low anyway, but a town of 700 odd residents with an exchange aparently with disabled ADSL2/VDSL2 equipment in it missing out as well, mmm

I wouldn't believe this for one minute.

If you had an ISAM (even if VDSL2 was disabled) you'd be EUBA on Ethernet backhaul and wouldn't have backhaul issues which are clearly related do your current UBA/ATM backhaul.

It has 4 line cards, I cant be bothered to sift through and see what all the makes are but one is a 7300 ASAM and another is a 7302 that is an ISAM.

Serious question, why the mix of new + old equipment? Would it be easier to upgrade the whole lot at the same time?

Also (and sorry if this has been asked) is Outram being served by a cabinet, or by its own exchange, or from the Mosgiel exchange?

Its own exchange. Its got 4 DSLAMS from what i looked at. Its only running ADSL1 so it doesnt matter whats in there.! Not to mention DSLAMS are not cheap!

If you're one of the lucky ones on ORA/J you're getting VDSL! If not then pfft live with your broadband speed Internet without complaining and man up. There are much worse, if you don't like it then move.

Actually only 10 houses within 800m of ORA/J will be capable of getting VDSL2, will any take the service, probably not... great investment by the taxpayer. ALSO please do not suggest I man up or move, my wife is separating from me and even with our crappy Internet I really want to stay here because of the community, friends, school and for my daughter...
