hio77: onto a more easy going topic for the night, sam, considering snap themselves are suggesting people not use the .55 firmware due to issues with certain line cards, fair to say.. throw something up not recommending it?

Yeah, been waiting for a consensus to build on this one, but it looks like we have one - .55 is rubbish! :)

I'll put something up this avo.

when i spoke to snap CSRs about it, they hadnt made the link between low attention and the firmware that we are pretty sure about here, but in their testing the .55 firmware was confirmed to have speed issues and port blocking issues (not cleanly closing the dsl sync and somehow confusing the line card into thinking its still up).

Have they officially said not to use it? I didn't find anything about it on the website.

their CSRs highly advise downgrading, they have a guide on it and all too. dont think its an offical DO NOT USE case yet though... looking at the recent connections, they are shipping fritzboxes with the .55 firmware still so draw conclusions from that.

next time i speak to their CSRs ill ask of the exact state in it..

stevehodge:

on another note, the rollback firmware has telnet enabled too.. handy..

Where is the rollback firmware?

firmware(7390) -> ftp://service.avm.de/Downgrade/FRITZ!Box%20Fon%20WLAN%207390/english/

and AVMs guide -> http://service.avm.de/support/en/SKB/FRITZ-Box-7390-int/761:Installing-an-older-version-of-the-FRITZ-Box-firmware-downgrade

yep, i supported the .55 firmware at first.. but seeing the issues it has bought up (lower syncs, port blocking, inconsistency in stats)

hopefully AVM put out a better firmware at some point.. all the good features without the issues..

I won't be surprised if they do advise say not to use it. I'm glad I didn't upgrade.

Thanks, I knew about those links but I think you're saying that the .22 firmware there has telnet enabled while the .22 firmware installed by Snap does not. Is that right?

Damn, and I was considering trying an an update to see if it resolved an issue I'm having with VOIP - my internet slows way down (practically stopping) while on a VOIP call through the fritzbox. I've tried removing the Telephony QoS rule but it didn't make any difference.

What's the difference between .55 and .51?

indeed, when i had the snap sent out 7390 on the .22 firmware, there was no telnetd included, but since downgrading, its still there

So does the consensus & advice not to run .55 hold for the 7390 as well as the 7340?

 Seems to just be me.  I've posted about it before but noone seemed to have any ideas what might be causing it and I'm stumped as to how to diagnose the cause.

the CSRs call it the "new firmware" .51 and .51 seems to be the same, just for 7390 and the 7340 being the differenace there

i take it you have tried restoring to stock and testing there to make sure its not some rule that was added somewhere along the lines?

check the cpu load of your fritz?

Doh, I think I found the cause. Under "Telephony->Own Telephone Numbers -> Line Settings" theres a setting "Use additional connection for Internet telephony via DSL (PVC)" which I'm sure I've never touched but for some reason it was ticked.

I've unchecked it and done a couple of quick tests and all seems fine now...
