Got my letter yesterday too. Looking at my modem it rebooted 6 days ago. Had a quick fish around, looks to have gone up from 20Mbit to 33Mbit down (rural 2.2km from cabinet), very useful.

NTP seems to have improved considerably, so potentially a lot more stable connection. Change in ntp aligns with timing of reboot. pfSense router. No other changes in local network. ntp source is msltime.irl.cri.nz

Suposidly vectoring was enabled for my cabinet this morning but, my modem is still syncing at g993.2. Even though g.inp and vectoring is enabled. My modem is the DSL-AC56U

my change didn't happen until 4:40 am, sync went up from 63 megabit download to 77 megabit, and down from 30.1 megabit to 30 megabit upload. although overheads means won't actually be able to upload at 30 megabit. average ping went up by about .3 msec with higher jitter.

g.inp and vectoring are both enabled:

Max: Upstream rate = 34826 Kbps, Downstream rate = 78247 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 30000 Kbps, Downstream rate = 77234 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Vectoring state: 3

i'd like to see the upload speeds uncapped and 3db snr margin profiles being available to lines with g.inp. that said i am only still on vdsl because of a delay in my fibre install.

That would be nice. I can live with 20Mbps downlink but my uplink has slowly degraded over the last year or so from 1.8Mbps to 1.1-1.3Mbps depending on the phase of the moon. I really want some uplink improvement.

What is your SNR like at the moment? I came from 9db to 6db SNR, although given your terrible speeds you may be on a huge cabinet/exchange that isn't being done?

My current modem doesn't show much detail, but while I was on the Fritzbox the graph showed that signal fell off a cliff due to attenuation towards the top of the first downlink band and there was absolutely nothing above it. So the uplink was all in the bottom band where it is on ADSL. Presently it lands on about 6db SNR in both directions. The VDSL modem is connected directly to the wire in from the road, and there's nothing but that single jack point on it so there's not a lot we can do to improve the physical.

On the map, we are currently on WW/B I believe, but we used to be on a cabinet which is not shown on this map anymore, but must still be there because the Chorus VDSL map still shows VDSL extending down Mahurangi West Rd, with a break in coverage north on SH1 which then resumes, presumably from WW/B.

The vectoring map doesn't show WW/B, so I guess we're not getting it. But it's OK because we're also not getting fibre!

With vectoring not being in full state for upstream its never really going to improve.

I suspect 3db would be way too low. Risk with vectoring is it's counting on crosstalk being atleast somewhat steady. Heavy source changing could monetarily drop snr and cause los otherwise.

It has now been enabled for our ISAM but the early results are partly inconclusive. Upload and latency have improved but download is within the range I have seen before-

Speedtest.net before-

Download 55 (Seen it go as high as 59 recently)

Upload 25

Latency to Inspire 19-21ms

Speedtest.net now-

Download 57

Upload 29 - a noticable improvement

Latency to Inspire 14-16ms - a noticeable improvement

At this point I think overall it's nothing to rave about, but then again, are the improved results courtesy of a newer ISAM software version and/or G.INP rather than G.vector?

Still, grateful I still have a connection. Cellular data gets a bit dodgy here on damp days like today.

One of the other interesting things I have to report is Cisco modem firmware VA_B_38V_d24m.bin is now working. This did not work when I first tried it a few days ago.

This firmware has no release notes linked, but Cisco states:

"Standalone multimode ADSL/VDSL firmware for Broadcom modem 6368 based CPE platforms: 886VA, 896VA. There no need to update your firmware if the current one works fine. Also applies to EHWIC-VA-DSL-B. This firmware is for enabling Vectoring"

Saw this on the chorus document about who will benefit from the vectoring upgrade

"Existing ADSL customers who can upgrade to the faster more stable vectored VDSL connection."

Is this implying that the reach for VDSL will be improved and those who currently can only get ADSL will potentially be able to get VDSL?

Or is this just a blurb about those who have access to VDSL now, will have access to a faster VDSL if they were to change?

Looking for any signs of hope of getting off my 12mbit adsl connection
