Did anyone ever get this sorted?

My once flawless ADSL connection keeps dropping just like the others in this thread. Ive recently shifted from Xtra to Xnet. The Xnet guys reckon its my router/modem but its worked fine for years without any issues.

BTW this is in Porirua / Wellington.

Cheers
Trevor

I think it might be a damaged filter on my end but will be doing some testing of this in the coming days

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried another filter (different brand) and had the same results.

The odd thing was that after 10pm last night it only disconnected once over night.

I read on a UK ADSL forum that it usually a drop in SNR ratio that causes this (anything lower than 10db is apparently not great and causes routers to struggle).

I looked on my router and it reckons its 10db and 23db (one is up and the otehr id down) but since I dont usually check these values I cant say what they used to be.

I guess the thing I want to avoid is having to buy a new router or pay for some techie to come and check the line.

The UK forum I mentioned said that it is sometimes advisable to complain to the phone line company that the phone line is noisy (ie rather than complain to the ADSL provider) since they are often more responsive in that situation (ie voice over ADSL).

Me too however I am from Christchurch
I am with IHUG
never have any issue with my modem Netear DG834G) till recently.
has tried all firmware versions from netgear to no avail.

sometimes it take days to dropout some time it drop out several time in 30 minutes.

I have try using the first phone socket, try 3 new filters still the same.

I have try using my spare Dynalink RTA1320 and its still the same, very frustrating indeed.

But now I have so many dropouts everyday !

Its good to hear it is not just me!  I'm in Christchurch in Bishopdale Casebrook using a Billion 7402 VGP.  I last upgraded the firmware about 8 months ago and it has been running rock solid since.   For the last couple of weeks my Xtra Adventure plan has been disconnecting several times across the day - particularly in the evening time.

i have to say somehow i'm glad i stayed with overpriced xtra. at least they dont drop my connections. tried the woosh 30day money back wireless thing ... gave it back within 4 hours ... resisted the temptation to switch to slingshot, thought really hard about orcon, well, am still with xtra 5gb plan. but i'm in invercargill though

Interestingly enough, after my post on Monday I have had no disconnects. Not sure if this is due to overloading but Im pretty confident its not the router since I doubt it would miraculously fix itself.
