If you're in Parnell you're certainly going to be getting VDSL2 from a cabinet. You will not be fed from Mayoral Drive.

Your situation sounds very much like a cabinet with no VDSL2 ports which will require a card swap which is normally up to 14 days.

So you're not in a fibre coverage area?

yes i am but my isp has said it will take chorus months to negotiate connection with body corporate etc. so they said connect vdsl, when previous tenant moved out chorus didnt swap the connection over as requested, they gave it to another waiter, which i guess is standard protocol.

ill be here 6-7 months, so waiting 4-12 months for internet is just nuts.

That does suck, but it in no way supports seriously suggesting further xDSL investment. On the plus side the port waiter list should at least turn over as presumably some people can now churn to fibre in your area. Stick yourself on the list.

THIS. It is almost certainly a wait for a VDSL card to be installed. You should be able to get ADSL already, and it would be a short wait for it to upgrade to VDSL. Check with your ISP to confirm. If this is short term while getting UFB, then just stick with ADSL.

no way id rather the whole country was fibre. i was doing dark fibre GIS estimations about 18 years ago in oz and i cant understand why small companies can do it yet a government turns over on the idea.

i was sure parnell was fed by the city exchanges? no.

hmmmm, ill ring vodafone in the morning. i cant wait months for the net.

Have you actually tried ordering an ADSL connection? Or have you assumed that a no on VDSL meant a no on ADSL as well?

Parnell wouldn't have been exchange fed for probably 6 or 7 years. A quick look shows around 20 cabinets covering the Parnell area.

If you're fed from a cabinet, you won't get VDSL from an exchange - line length will be far too long to get satifactory perfomance.

I don't know VFs network - you'd have to phone them and ask...

I also don't know the UFB holdup you are having but it could easily be to do with the consents required for a MDU - although there are other possibilities.

A good ADSL2+ connection isn't bad at all. Sure there's only up to a mbit upload, but You can watch HD LIghtbox, Netflix easily, web browsing won't be slow etc... If you regularly upload lots of videos it might seem a bit slow.

Yes Vodafone have their equipment in exchanges, but you're probably fed from a cabinet, not an exchange, so that's a moot point.

You also wouldn't get VDSL2+ at the 2+ km from MDR so that's also a moot point.

so where do you think the cabinet might be? 20 of them, surely thats a quick churn rate?

could i order adsl now and ask to be on waiter for vdsl and get the ball rolling for the MDU UFB request?

thanks everyone, as long as i can do work from home and watch netflix ill be happy.

Order ADSL for starters, then once it's up and running order either VDSL or UFB.

So there are more ports for ADSL than VDSL?

think id just get the cheaper adsl and wait for the UFB. with apartments (single story), is it usually just body corporate approval for the mdu that takes time?

feel less stressed now, sorry for the cynicism.
