wasabi2k: While I agree with the thrust of your argument, comparing fiber (which has alternatives) with power (which doesn't) is a tad disingenuous.
wasabi2k: You get that the landlord OWNS the house right?
And that most UFB installs will involve drilling a hole through the wall from the outside, not to mention other work on the property (potentially cutting up driveways, running cables etc).
Would you be happy if a tenant of a house you owned went ahead and got holes drilled in your house without even notifying you? Or that you were forced to allow someone to do so, even if you didn't want it done?
I agree that 99% of landlords shouldn't have a problem with it, but tenants don't have free reign to do whatever to property they don't own.

There is a difference between a professional drilling holes to install a utility service vs. a gung-ho tenant drilling holes in the wall just because they feel like it. IMHO, too many landlords have a "My house, my rules" attitude, without necessarily balancing the rights of the person who is paying the mortgage for them. There needs to be a mechanism to challenge refusal for both tenants as well as those with "right of way" access who are blocked from getting utility installs by consenting parties who just say no without a good reason.
richms: No indoor running water for you peasant house renter! I dont want the pipes installed because they have to make holes!
Seems absurd? So is preventing internet.
