@DarthKermit That looks like something that would need to be reported to network damage (0800 463 896). A tech would then go out to fix and audit previous work done.
happy to get that sorted if you flick me the address location.

To avoid damaging underground telecommunications, power, water and gas services, beforeUdig.co.nz is the best place to start your project.
I have to worry every time do the gardening, surely that isn’t right. Had some close calls.
Is it really under ground when you can see the cable.
Also if fence needs replacing with myself and others the current fence has been used as part of the install, I.e cable is on part of the fence, wonder what happens there.
Thank you for information provided.
I would not say ever time. Once should be enough, I would suggest doing due diligence check with beforeudig if you buying a new property to find out where utilities are placed if you're planning any work.
In regards to the fence replacing example, and order can be placed though the broadband provider to get previous install moved I.E taken of the fence and run in a temporary fashion until it can be reattached to the new fence or placed in a new position. The will be costs involved to do this though.

i couldn't believe it when they just ran the fibre through our garden. Not buried at all, total mickey mouse in my view.

So all the running some conduit through peoples gardens, front lawns, fences is geo mapped so beforeudig has the info?

If the cable is exposed and not fixed to an existing structure (I.E buried too shallow), then that is a workmanship issue we need to investigate. If you would like to private message us the address and add a few photo's if you can, we would be happy to get this resolved.

I don't think chorus did the install...i am in tauranga, so it was UFF, I think .
No, it is not attached to anything, it just lies on top of our garden.

Underground location plans provide information about plant presence only - they do not pinpoint the exact location of the cables. Tradies are responsibility to visually expose the cable or pipe manually by using hand tools before any construction begins.

All the local Fibre companies have guidelines and standards they adhere to.
I would highly suggest getting in touch with UFF so they can sort this out for you.
You can find them at http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/contact-us/ or Email: complaints@ultrafast.co.nz
They also have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ultrafastfibre/

so you attaching your network to my fence makes it my cost should the fence need to be replaced? what a rort.
if the fence falls over in a storm what happens? insurance will pay for the fence, will they pay to fix your network?
these types of installs are shoddy and done on the cheap to save a buck now, they are not installed to last 10-50 years like copper was.
hence why ill be running my own trench when i get fibre.

where are these standards for installs listed? are they self generated?
Hey Jase2985,
in the case of storm damage Chorus would do the repair.
If you agree to have it placed on the fence but later want to change the fences it would cost for the labor. same as it would apply for for moving a copper ETP.
you can find the install-standards here : https://sp.chorus.co.nz/tools-and-support/install-standards
running your own trench is absolutely an option.

hey @chorusnz if you do fibre install at my place for free, i'll let you run it across the fence! no need to bury
Trees do not count as fences so you might need to go bush a little.
keen? ;)

Installers just aren't giving the option though.
To me it seems the people who make decisions at Chorus live in this perfect world where everything they write down in a SOP document is followed perfectly. That just isn't happening and installs are pure bollocks - Sky TV standards as it were.

I looked at chart on Chorus SOP, is there a fence, yes surface mount.
It is SOP to run on fence, also notice wording with trench the word shallow is used.
I think from memory signed install plan before installed so stuffed there, but if I hadn't signed agreeing guess I would still be on copper.
Here is one from just today. Business address...
The customer called us because the Chorus contractor had given him a QUOTE to install his fibre in conduit as opposed to surface mount. He was confused because we were of course offering a free install and yet this contractor basically wasn't going to do it unless he was allowed to cable tie/clip to the fence.
Now two fold here I think... I do think perhaps the customer wasn't giving us the full story as I know he is quite particular. But on the same token, his next door neighbours connection was down for a day because some undesirable ripped it off the fence and obviously pulled it hard enough to break something which I think is why he might have been persistent the contractor used conduit.
The kicker for me is the current copper lead-in is a 50-pair going to an old demarc in the building. It's in a *50mm* surface mount conduit that is saddled along an old cinder block nib wall. And then some guy rocks along to install the latest and greatest with a handful of cable clips, zip ties and a tiny little tube! Christ, five years ago (maybe more...) we would have been absolutely crucified for even surface mounting a 20mm conduit carrying a copper lead-in, and yet now there is zero issue doing that.
Something isn't right.
