I've mentioned before on GKZ that when the common fibre in the ground was installed around where I live, the number of water pipes damaged that caused subsequent leaks was pretty impressive. Some are still leaking 2 years later 🙄

Thank you Yutani. Long story short, it didn't go ahead today, not sure that it will/can. The lead tech said they couldn't use the existing cat5e cable that plugged in externally to the VDSL termination point and that I would need to get an electrician in to see what my options were in respect to getting the fibre to where the patch panel is located. As it's the ground floor of a double story house built on a concrete pad I think I'm between a rock and a hard place. :-(

your gonna have to show us some pics mate.

draw a rough as guts plan in MS Paint or somthing....

a couple pics from the outside would help too (does the room with your gear have an external wall)?

You dont necessarily need fibre to the patch panel, if you have two or more outlets in the lounge you can have the ONT there and use the Cat5e to and from the PP

Sorry I've tried a couple of times to upload a couple of pics with no success. I'll bow out now, thanks to all who have tried to help. I'll focus on trying to improve my current VDSL download speed which has plummeted from around a reliable 25 Mbps to around 9.5 but I see there is another thread on that topic so I'll pop over there. cheers

Here are a couple of pics. The first showing the current cable run inside the house, the second how the cat5e cable plugs into the external VDSL termination point. The green conduit is buried and runs to the teleco access point on the road. The lead tech said they couldn't use the existing cable as it might not have enough draw. There is no conduit internal to the house. The cable runs through holes drilled into the house framing. The distance from the external connection to the patch panel is about 25 meters give or take. The tech said they would also need to replace the external green conduit that is above the ground with either white or grey in case they get audited - which would be interesting because the external termination point is behind an aircon unit (the white pipes in the second picture).
