So speeds are variable, but average 80/17 in December, how much data is allocated for $159? (I may have been blind). Any chance of a static IP?

From my understanding no datacaps. They only have a couple of /24 IPv4 subnets for NZ so will be CGNAT for IPv4 and IPv6.

I for one will be chucking my name down.

Currently no fibre ($120k for the install) or even copper ($84k for the install) in my street. Currently have a radio link, but this appears to be both faster and cheaper. Two great things when seeking approval from the Minister of Finance!

Whos going to be first to use it as their fibre fail over?

When the light in the tube fails, use space technology!

Just placed a pre-order for exactly this. I've been looking at satellite options since the Great Outage of December 2019.

The next really interesting show to drop will be a future voice service,

It will be a huge safety game changer for back country workers  in remote NZ, let along really sparsely populated countries like Australia/US/Canada/Russia Africa etc

Linus Tech Tips has an interesting review of this.
They mention ping of 45-50 ms for gaming, and 27 ms for regular browsing, commenting that these numbers are slower than what they're used to in Vancouver. However for NZers, gaming ping of at least that is pretty much normal for any overseas server, so I suspect that kiwis will be pretty happy with the service it provides.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Quite frankly as a gamer I absolutely can handle high ping most games and I am okay with up to 200ms. My tolerance is very different from other gamers who probably want the lowest and that's cool too so this would absolutely suit the need for gamers if they had literally no other choice.

Totally. I'm old enough and crap enough at first person shooters that super-fast ping isn't going to make a lot of difference. My teen sons would argue differently though.

I mostly play stuff like World of Tanks on the Hong Kong server because of the larger number of players than the AU server, and the 180 ping is a non-issue.

If I wasn't beaming a fibre connection 11km from town to my house. I'd be getting starlink...

Wow, and how reliable, latency and speed is that? Do you have line of sight?

The initial setup was up for almost 2 years (clear los). Only time it ever went down was when the power went out at my house otherwise the connection never was down...no rain fade. And once at the house in town (plug came out...lol). However....divorce and the house was sold and I had to find a new house.

Second setup no direct line of sight (pine tree forest). But looking around I saw another house of a person we both knew. So the new setup....beam it to a house 5km...then redirects to my house 11km. Activated second ONT...account in my name. I think the airfiber setup...adds about 3 to 7 ms to ping overall (I can live with it). Once these things are aimed properly....they're pretty rock solid.

I may eventually upgrade one set of the airFiber 5XHD's to airFiber 60GHz LR's

I recall somewhere stating latency observance is roughly half of your reaction speed. For average adults this is around 250ms, so delay can be up to 120ms before most people do notice it. People with faster reaction speed will notice it sooner, 150-180 for athletes (including ‘gamers’). 70-90ms seems quite alright for starlink to support.

Whats the deal with moving this around inside NZ? I.e does the service address have to remain the same?
