And dare I mention those of us stuck on My Republic who got upgraded from 100/20 (or whatever it was) to 1000/500 for free just so they can say they're that fastest ISP in the country.

ooh I hope so, I could never justify moving to gigabit, I don't think I saturate my 100/20 connection with what I do currently. But the 100 upload would be great.
Ditto. Exact same situation here.
Wow this is great news! Will definitely change to this plan from Gigabit once my contract expires. Good on Chorus.
Edit - could someone explain what this means in more basic terms? I get 2.5Mbps is CIR, but what is the difference between Low Class & High Class, and isn't low class CIR already 2.5Mbps?
ACE news😀
I'm hoping spark will just upgrade my 100Mb to 300Mb without any intervention on my part.

We don't talk about MyRepublic and their dodgy misleading marketing practices around here...

So what is this going to do to NZ speed ranking:

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
Given this results in less distinction to the next tier product (900/500), is that next in line for a bump to 2.5G/1G?

Just read the article on ‘Stuff’ and took note that Spark said they would offer it when it is available but there was some cost in making the adjustment. From that I expect my 100/20 to go to 300/100 but I’ll have to pay a ‘bit more’ to cover Spark’s costs. Vodafone hadn’t responded.

Generally in these changes a new Plan Variant on the chorus side is created, which is why many providers need to plan out how they make changes - it means a mass plan change ontop of their internal changes.
It's quite interesting to note on this one, chorus have advised they will change the existing plan.
Many providers will still have their internal plans to update, network changes to make etc.
This could certainly still impact providers cost, as they do need to foot the bill for the increased bandwidth utilization.

I don’t get charged extra for 200/100 on Enable in Christchurch (2degrees) vs retail prices on 100/20 on different LFC’s.
Interesting, when Chorus upgrades plans looks like indication of increased costs need to be passed to consumer.
Spark doesn’t even offer Enable upgrade which is part of reason I switched.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the uptake of GB plans thou..
Also is a good move from Chorus in its on going battle against Spark/VF and their fixed 4G BB plans

I really hope Spark / Skinny and co do upgrades too. From memory the 30/10 plan was upgraded to have 50Mbit down free of charge but both providers (at-least currently) don't seem to be offering this to customers. I suspect this is to "upsell" customers to the 100Mbit plan.
It is great that Chorus are doing this and advertising it also.
Spark's Fibre Basic plan is 30/10 or 50/10 depending on the LFC's base offering.
