Yep, ddDLM drove my SNR down to zero after I had already lowered it from 11dB down to 5dB last week with the SNR adjustment.

However, the modem accumulated over 8000+ downstream CRC errors in 12 hours. Will be interesting to see if your errors clock up also?

Can't afford any more Interleave Depth so back to default (zero) SNR adjustment

Snr tweaking generally is smooth aeound -3dB. After this it will exceptionally increase.

As errors are a factor ddDLM use I'd be careful.
Remember ddDLM can affect power, latency, snr and opmodes.

Negatively influencing ddDLM could end up with say a drop in powee levels which there is no way to tweak about.

Another risk is you could flag the stability profiles. These run at steps of 12 and 15 dB.

Don't get me wrong im all for the nerdy tweaking. I've done much of it myself. However the power ddDLM is able to pull brings a new aspect to things

Hi everyone,

My first post here on Geekzone and it's for help :/

I recently moved houses where we could get VDSL and since moving in, for about 3 1/2 weeks our VDSL connection was rock solid and was connected at about 50/10. Last Thursday morning we started having problems, our downloads would only reach about 1Mbps down while upload remained solid @ 11Mbps. The change happened over at about 5am in the morning which I understand is when the DLM changes take effect. I tested the speeds over both Wifi and LAN and same result.

I thought I'd leave it for a few days and see if it worked itself out of the funk it was in, but come Saturday it was unusable. I called up Spark (my provider) and the technician got me to reset the Router (Huawei 695b) which didn't make a difference, he then had a look on their side and while he was doing that got me to test my LAN connection with a speedtest. Sure enough the speed came right and was downloading @ 50Mbps, I tested it on our wifi and the speed was sub 1Mbps. He said it was a common fault with the huawei modem. Luckily i've got a spare Asus VDSL Router that I could change over to.

So it seemed that all was right and that the line speeds came back to normal, but after hanging up with the Spark Technician even my LAN speeds were all over the show and sometimes couldn't even load googles front page.

I swapped over the routers and tried the Asus one and things looked better across both the LAN and Wifi. But this didn't last long. I noticed come Sunday afternoon that speeds were fluctuating again.

Come Monday morning the router had a DSL signal but could not 'authenticate' with Spark, and we had no Internet. I turned off the Asus router and went back to the Huawei and things have been stable since yesterday.

The problem I now have is that my Downstream line rate is 36637 but my Maximum is 62034.

I'm dreading that i'm now 'stuck' on this VDSL Profile.

Hio77, you seem to be the guru around here when it comes to VDSL, any advice or I know it's cheeky for a first time poster like me to ask, but would you be able to assist if you're able to?

Update to my series of changes in West Auckland on 2Degrees:

New DLM went live and my line moved from 8b to 17a and from 48/10 to 56/20
After a few days it went to 48/24 and there it stayed for a few weeks
In the last few days it has reverted to 8b and 56/11

Line has seemed stable throughout but was certainly generating increased CRC error on the 17a at higher speeds which then settled when it reverted to the lower down speed

@radian I'm off work today(food poisoning 😷) but can have a look.

Cases where the speed is solid after a refresh then dipping down are rather difficult to resolve, often requiring a special bit of attention and handled correctly to avoid unnecessary NFFs

Dm me contact details and your ll number and I'll see what i can do for you.

Does sound dlm related but if it indeed turns out to not be physical i can discuss this with the correct channels to have it looked at.

Histoically this is normally an issue with a connection which is slightly loose and pulling out in the warmth.

5am does point to dlm but the user experience indicates otherwise.

On one of my connections here it is slightly loose. Storms mainly trigger it and is on my vf adsl link so i kinda just deal with it as its less effort to reboot.

No - I am certainly not unhappy! A free speed boost is always welcome and TBH I would rather have it DS than US.

From memory, latency was reporting as 8ms...

I still have 36 down and 11 up with the upstream looking it is running on the best stats the new ddDLM has provided, unfortunately this is the opposite for my downstream. These are the stats for my downstream, SNR: 16.0 Interleaver Depth: 777 Delay: 8ms INP: 4.00 I am on VDSL Annex B aswell, also long does it take to fully optimize both downstream and upstream on the new ddDLM?

Downstream pulling back like that would indicate you are on the ability profile or your actually syncing with a target of 12dB and noise floor has raised.

How are your error rates looking? Disconnecting alot?

Both of these are high and will bring down your downstream sync
You would have been getting CRC and ES and possibly SES errors for SNR to be that high ?, and also Interleave depth is really high another measure to fix error rates
SNR may come down with time on a stable line as long as ddDLM keeps checking the line conditions
Not so sure about Interleave Depth, I'm seeing how mine gets on as I'm even higher but with a 6db SNR

here's a screen shot of everything to make it easier, also have looked in the modem log, nothing about being disconnected through the day, in fact we have never had any disconnections regarding a line fault, only the cabinet resetting our connection at 4am

Do another check tomorrow, keep an eye on ES errors and SES errors these are seconds of errors needing to be resent, SES are I think Severe Errors Seconds
CRC errors are also to be avoided
HEC errors are corrected in transit (not resent)

But as your SNR is at 16db and Interleave depth is 700+ ddDLM may already have attempted to try and fix previous problems

I hope that Interleave Depth can be repaired by ddDLM and we're not stuck with it.

Prior to ddDLM I was on approx 22/1.0. A few days ago it moved to 22/1.4. Now it has moved down to 16/1.3. :(
