Tel1nz:

2. the DHCP settings are all display-only. I can't change the internal address range (not a fatal issue, but annoying,) and I can't set static addresses - the fields are there but you can't enter anything into them.

I'm going to hope everything renews to the same addresses over the holiday period and still use mapping by IP address, but does anyone know how to set IP ranges and set reservations on the Nokia ONT?

Redhoodie: Apparently this stuff is getting unlocked in a firmware release/update early next year (in the replies a few pages back); I’m holding out for it too.
You could always just run everything though another router. (Though double NAT can be annoying)

Thanks for the quick reply 😀 , I wasn't sure if that applied to static addresses as well. Now that I've actually slept for a bit, the obvious workaround is to just use a static address set on the server PC in the same range but outside the DHCP scope until the firmware upgrade is released. That works juuust fine for what I need.

So just a heads up, the lead times that are specified for hyperfibre might not be realistic.

I signed up for hyperfibre back on December 2 and still don't have a date for install, apparently chorus need to upgrade something (or are just being useless, their communication skills aren't great).

So I'm guessing if you were on the fence, you should probably do it as you might not get it anytime soon anyway..

Would love to know if anyone else is having a similar experience, or if people had it done super fast?

Our Communications will be with your RSP.

However, if you PM me your address, I can see what is going on.

Makes sense to me - although from talking to them no update had been provided until they reached out? not sure if true.

I had someone reach out and kind of glossed over what was needed but would love an actual understanding of what we're waiting on - will drop you my address - thanks!

BMarquis was a legend and gave me detail around my install (thanks heaps!), just got delayed a bit due to XMas and them having to upgrade the equipment at the other end. I'm booked in for the ONT upgrade 3 weeks away so will update and provide some speed tests (Orcon) when it lands! :D

Sounds like you got caught up in brownouts.

Anyone else notice the AdminGPON account is defunct and you can't change virtually any network settings on the Nokia ONT? Why in God's name should the user not be allowed to disable DHCP? Guess that's the universe pushing me back to pfSense...

Well Chorus generally doesn't have to deal with end-users directly, so much like courier companies they don't give a rat's about us.

My ISP tech support seemed quite blasé about it as well. "Maybe they'll change it in the future" was the essence of what I got from them.

Whatever, I'd rather run my own router, just hadn't got around to having bridging enabled. Thankfully I have a little Xeon-D board with dual 10G nics. Time to see if pfSense still sucks under Hyper-V

Yeah :/ I'm also holding out to have bridging enabled. Orcon told me this wasnt a think for residential HyperFibre (though Chrous docs disagree), so i'll either upgrade to business or rejoice when bridging mode is made availalbe for residential.

Is starting to feel that way, just had Chorus cancel on me (after calling and confirming a time already this morning), so pushed my install back to Wednesday.

Currently at day 75 of my request to have hyperfibre. How fun.

I've had a fair amount of "hit and miss" with my dealings with Chorus over the past 10 years. Our fibre installs have been pretty efficient and timely, and I remember one time they sent a guy up a pole to sort out our DSL interruption right when a massive storm was about to hit (which was the tech's decision, I wouldn't have held it against him if he'd not wanted to!). Then again we've had a couple of outages where Chorus field techs have disconnected us to hook up someone else on the street.

My network setup is currently:
Chorus ONT/Router <-10GbE-> UDM-Pro <-SFP+ DAC-> 10g network

I have a UDMP and am considering Hyperfibre. I've never needed to use SFP before - how do you connect the ONT to the UDMP via 10GbE, given that the UDMP only has 10G WAN via SFP+? Do you need some kind of adapter?

@davyike the question for you is what are you hoping to gain from Hyperfibre? Networking equipment is expensive currently and despite you having a dream machine pro, you’re still limited by the lacklustre ISP choice currently. You’re better to wait until more providers support it and also network equipment is cheaper.

Thanks, that's the impression I'd gotten. My reason for asking now, is because I'm running cables from one part of the house (where the ONT lives) to the other part where the UDMP lives, and I'm trying to figure out what cables I should be running if I want Hyperfibre later. Will I paint myself into a corner if I only run CAT6a?
