Try using the tracert command to see the timings at each hop. For example:

C:\> tracert www.nzherald.co.nz

The tracert command (called traceroute on Linux) works a bit like ping, but instead of just giving you the total time to reach the destination, it breaks down the times for each hop along the way. The first hop will be your router, the second will be a Snap router, etc.

In my case, I get about 1ms latency between my laptop and the Fritz!Box (802.11n WiFi @ 5GHz). The second hop averages about 7ms latency, meaning there's about 6ms latency between my router and Snap's router. Hops 3-8 all show about 7ms latency, meaning that there's practically zero latency between Snap and The Herald.

You can use the latency between the first and second hops to help guess at your DLM profile. Possible VDSL latency values are 1ms, 8ms and 16ms. Look at the time between hops 1 and 2 and compare it to these values. Pick the largest of these 3 values that's less than the hop time, and that's most likely your VDSL latency. In my case this time is 6ms, so my VDSL latency is 1ms.
