In regards to my own problem... It was our ADSL line filter that came with our NetGear Router that is playing up. Turns out it didnt like our big Document Center Printer/Copy/Fax machine. It would make the DSL drop every time we have an out going or incoming FAX.
I put a DSE filter on and the DSL hasnt dropped yet.. but will keep monitoring over the next month..
tchart: Interestingly enough, after my post on Monday I have had no disconnects. Not sure if this is due to overloading but Im pretty confident its not the router since I doubt it would miraculously fix itself.

Counting my chickens and all that too soon...
My connection was acting up again last night but is fine this morning.
After my connection continues to be down more than up I rang Xnet again. Spoke to someone decent on the phone who reckons that on the day my troubles started, Telecom had performed a hardware upgrade on the exchange I am connected to (for ADSL2 apparently). He reckons they must have mucked it up somehow.
