Doesn't sound like something the ComCom would have a lot of issue with. There's nothing wrong with Chorus competing; they're not trying to shut people out of fibre, just to use their service rather than the competitor's. Personally, I think you're a mug to stay on copper if you have fibre as an option, but whatever floats your boat.

I was getting 70/30 but recently my connection has been flaky after years of good stability. I have a master filter so I know it's not that.

70/30 (linecard limited line) is an Ikanos linecard.

These do not support the vectoring at all.

I'm unsure if Broadcom cards support vectoring, Possibly @chorusnz could verify if these also need replacing?

As it stands at the moment, this is a Pilot, with chorus intending (and already upgrading many areas) to roll this out.

Comcom just need to give it the sniff test or whatever first...

I am not due Fibre till 2020 :( 100/50 on VDSL would be awesome.

Personally i bridge using NF4V, Most VDSL modems are capable of bridge mode though.

Unlike ADSL where you often needed PPPoA Translation, VDSL is Ethernet based, so PPPoE/DHCP. DSL port simply needs to be bridged to a Ethernet interface..

Another vote for the NF4V on bridge mode. I have a Mikrotik RouterBoard behind it.

their firmware leaves broadcom chipset totally open, great for monitoring!

Cant wait for vectoring to be enabled and I am not due for fibre for at least 6 years or more as my town has already completed the fibre roll out but my street completely missed out. But vectoring should bring my line closer to 100mbit

I think the market is solely sub-technical people who really just have no idea what they're doing, or just want the absolute cheapest plan possible.

I struggled with slow, flaky ADSL at my last flat in a non-cabinet part of Mt Eden until fibre finally became available. Immediately got it installed (thanks to a supportive landlord) and enjoyed the perfect high speeds for a few months before I bought a house and moved out. I checked the Chorus SAT out of curiosity a few months later and saw the new tenants had connected back up to 7mbps ADSL

WTF that is just mental

Unless the landlord thought: The tenants left this white box attached to the wall. I want to repaint and it is in the way. [throws out ONT and cuts fibre cable]

On a more serious note - Why doesn't Chorus simply refuse to accept any copper orders for properties that have previously had a live fibre connection? Although the cynic in me, thinks that the reason is that Chorus want to reduce the chance that people might just sign up to wireless broadband instead. And that some revenue from a copper line is still better than no revenue at all.

questions are already occasionally being raised at requests for VDSL when UFB is available.

So have not had much feedback from chorus contacts on this..

However out of interest i've started pulling stats basd on the spark connections on this DSLAM.

Overall i'm seeing an increase of average speeds from 20-30(measurement is based on connection time so some variance) This has increased to 50-60Mbit!

The other really interesting stat is, lines that normally would resync say, 4 times a week now hold solid - All showing upwards of 5 days solid dsl sync!

This is likely due to Vectoring reduction in line error rates from crosstalk, also likely G.INP is taking care of Error bursts that would normally cause a dropout.

I'm not 100% on this but it would seem that vectoring is active on my line.

My attainables have gone from 75/35 to 120/35 (capped at 100mbps).

Latency has also decreased, from 14ms to about 8ms which is nice.
