I want to place my ONT on a lounge wall 8m from where my ETP will be.

Wooden floor house with reasonably good access under floor.

Hopefully the Chorus tech will clip the ETP/ONT fibre to a floor joist.

Not sure how they with run the fibre from under the floor up to the ONT - up through the floor on the inside gib wall or up the wooden external wall and through the wall to the base of the ONT.

Scoping still 2 weeks away.

@cyril7 not sure what other pics would show. There's nothing to see apart from the end of the cat5e plugging into the extenal VDSL the other end terminates at port 12 on the patch panel.

@trig42 a couch is on the other side of the wall with no ethernet ports at all in this room (an joining room not shown in the diagram is wired up). I thought they could just push the existing cable back into the house and use that but I was told that wasn't an option. I have no idea how you could install a cable run given that what is already there doesn't use conduit so you couldn't use it as a cable pull.

Ah OK.

You could push that cable through couldn't you though? They may not want to do it, but it doesn't stop you doing it. All you need is a connection between the ONT and the patch panel.

Another option would be getting an electrician to pull a new cable or two through and install a wall port behind the couch, or somewhere more convenient - there is obviously already the cable there between ETP and patch panel - could you/your sparky use that as a draw wire.

I’d imagine they’ll do it the easiest way, probably external.
Depending on which way the bearers run , you can nearly always feed a cable through the gap where the bearer is attached to the pile.

Hi, was just trying to undestand what features could be used to run a pathway. As Brunzy says looks like external might be the go, could you not dig in a conduit from the ETP to the corner of the lounge and the garage (near the patch panel) and then head inside with surface mounted capping. This run could be considered on your side of the ETP (so fibre is jointed at the ETP) and the conduit used to carry an Opti5E cable. If digging in does not work then purhaps the conduit run along the bottom exterior edge of the lounge wall.

@trig42 considering I'm challenged even trying to post pics up to this site I'm just not game enough to give it a go myself. An electrician might be able to use the existing cable as a draw wire but that might be risky given internally there's no conduit in place just holes drilled in the house framing with the cable fed through during initial construction. I should imagine the bend angle where the cable rises from the wall to feed along the ceiling cavity will be pretty sharp too. I suppose I should get someone in to give me a professional opinion of what realistic options I have, but I'll need to weigh that up against the risk that if I go ahead and something happens to that cat5e cable that is already in place I could be back to a dial-up modem as my only option.

@Cyril7 my first diagram was pretty light on detail. Here is a more accuarte layout though not to scale as my MS Paint skills are on a par with my image upload skills.

If it goes up the wall, across , and back down the garage wall , your chances of pulling a new cable are virtually zero, especially if you cant get into the ceiling space.

But the ceiling space above the top floor, are you saying thats a skelton design with no space also, is there an eve, could a carefully installed conduit run around that?

If you were extremely fortunate and there was a 25ml hole and nothing else in there , you may just do it , but generally the entry to the patch panel will have multiple cables in it

How did you get the green conduit under the paved area?

I am planning to drive a 32mm waste pipe under my 1m wide path. This should allow for easy feeding of the green conduit by Chorus/Downer.
