Not at all, just offering a possible explanation. I went through and replicated your results, rather annoyingly you're right. Annoyingly in that Orcon provides us with details on where their services are offered, so that shouldn't happen (though Genius was added late in the project).

Apologies for that, especially because Genius does look like a cool plan, we'll get that fixed.

Same sort of problem here. I selected Whakatane and it recommended TrustPower Kinect, which according to TrustPower's site is not available here.

Hmmm, this seems to be the same issue Farcus was having. We'll get the Telcos to recheck their region data.

The technical speeds specs were also wrong/different from what the provider says they are.

Are providers able to update their own details?

brief edit: The providers are able to edit their details. We provide them with the info from our database and do our best to make sure everything is verified. There may be some data entry errors, but this is why we work closely with the providers to keep these to an absolute minimum.

If you want to give more details about the plan and if it was 20% higher or lower I can get it looked at. Also check if it hasn't added things like data packs.

Something is not right.

I chose 'Broadband only', 'Very fast - at least 10Mbps', do not require fast upload, 'up to 20Gb', 'either is fine' for overage, $60 at most.
It gave NO RESULTS yet we have the TelstraClear Cable internet (only) plan "LightSpeed 20G", 15Mbps/2Mbps, 20Gb (plus $2.95/GB overage), $55.95 per month.

I changed the limit to $70 and it came up with our plan with an estimated monthly cost of $61.85? How is that calculated? If I change to 'up to 10Gb' then the plan comes up at $55.95. Perhaps the wording should be changed to "about 20Gb" rather than "up to 20Gb"

While it might look obvious, I think that people here are critical because they think the project is a good idea and would like to see it work.

Another point I would like to make is that the prices displayed for 'Broadband only' plans are not a fair comparison. All plans which need a phone line subscription should have a "+ phone line cost" next to the price. Either that or it should be included in the 'special conditions' field.

HadynGreen: They sure are, in fact all of the details are theirs. They provide us with all of the information we use in the site. Which is why it might take us a while to get new plans loaded in if the companies want to keep things on the down-low until launch.

Clearly shows my package costing $119.55, yet when we look at "Monthly charge" 4 rows down it says $95.95 (which is what I'm paying).

So I am confused about what this means. Perhaps it does reflect something useful, but I found it confusing and did not understand. Perhaps I didn't read enough. I was hoping this was a quick compare tool, and I will be the first to confess I didn't put much effort in to reading all the words.

Shows the package of the TelstraClear web site - Up to 15 Mbps / 2 Mbps is the stated speed. Not 20.0 MB/s/ 3.0 MB/s

When looking the dsl plans (also offered in Christchurch) the only reference I found with respect to speeds was: "Maximum speed relates to ADSL/ADSL2+ services delivered as fast as your connection allows."

We all know you can't do 3mbit upload on ADSL2+ in New Zealand currently aiui.

jbard: Put in my current details and got no plans found, i suspect this is because the price points i selected, for example i spend $115 on Total home broadband 60GB and selected $60 for landline and $60 for broadband as this is the average price, so being prepared to spend $120 on those it still doesn't find the plan i am on.

People are looking for the cheapest plan for their needs so why not show all plans in low-high order.

This is an interesting point. All of the results are obviously sorted low-high in price order, and had you selected "I don't know" for the price range you would've got what you wanted. Now, I'm not saying that you should've done that, I'm just thinking out loud. Though you are almost certainly paying more for your broadband than $60 and less than $60 for your landline, despite it being the average price on your plan.

Why are the price selectors there at all? Some people want to strictly budget for particular services and we wanted to let them do that. Unfortunately it does take away some packages from results for exactly the reason that you mention.

When I chose 'up to 10GB' the cheapest option was the Orcon Bronze plan. In fact it was listed four times at four different estimated monthly costs.
For the life of me I can't find that plan on the Orcon website. Is it a fault with the Orcon website or is the plan no longer offered?

I appreciate being able to post feedback here which is being taken notice of. I was going to email Consumer, as there is no comments section on the TelMe website (probably for good reason).

You're right, something is not right there. (And thanks for adding all your details it made it very easy to replicate the problem)

It lists the price as $61.85 which looks like it's including the phone line costs which it shouldn't be doing. Thanks for the heads up, we'll get on to that one.

So am I to be honest. I think what it's doing is adding the cost of a landline to it. Which is a similar problem to what Skolink had. I'll flag all of the Telstra Lightspeed plans for us to have a look at.

just wondering why it does that since it is possible that a plan that includes a landline might actually be cheaper than a naked option at a certain level of data.

for example, I selected Auckland, very fast speed, don't need upload, >50GB cap, and want to be slowed down when I hit my cap.

It reccomended Compass zone naked for $115 as the cheapest options, yet I know that several plans from other providers are cheaper than that, give >50GB of data, and still include a landline, but because they include a landline they are excluded from these results even though they are cheaper. bizarre.

It's possible that the Orcon plans were changed when they launched Genius, though the different prices will be with different add-ons. Bronze is still an option for business plans. We'll take a look and find out what's up.
