Hi guys - I have a client who have the misfortune of literally being the boarder of the Government UFB Map. Enable refuse to do anything even though either side of their front gate is a business with fibre and a housing development with fibre to each section. Even getting a 4G connection has issues due to the location and I suspect tower loading.

Starlink is currently only for residential use. From https://www.starlink.com/legal/terms-of-service-preorder

2.1 Residential Use. Services and the Starlink Kit are for use exclusively at the address you provided in your Order, and only for personal, family, household or residential use.

If you want to see the potential eye-watering costs for a business connection see here:

Not sure how much this is actually enforced though.

I did have a vague recollection of that and probably should have checked. I might see if its possible to make contact with them as although it will be a business its going to be lighter use than the average household with a console. At the end of the day a best effort connection is still going to be more reliable than their current situation that is exacerbated but bad connection, old copper lines, more than your average number of over night power outages taking out server and users without the technical knowledge to walk in and power things back up reliably.

With a 1MBit upstream on ADSL I just think going for 365 they'd be choking the 1Mbit too often.

They are again literally the boarder of VDSL - I think last time they asked it was indicated it wasn't likely to work so they didn't want to try.

I might take a look at Wireless offerings as they can see sugarloaf but at the same time it looks like it'll be 12 months before the tree's need topping that we see sugarloaf over the top of.

Holy moly, $85,000 NZD for a yearly "Business++ Best Effort Service" Connection.  I wonder what speeds they are offering!

I suspect that won't fly. I've reached out to Netspeed to see what they can offer - The are in a pretty good place I suspect for Wifi antenna connections as they have line of site to common points on the Port hills.

There was some discussion here earlier about Android Starlink App pointing North. Just thought I'd show what I sent Starlink guys. Android vs (old) iPhone. So don't rely on your Android there!!

The latest app update (~12h ago) has just fixed this for me!  My android app now points south.  Bit late now that I have a dish, but hey.

If you need a static/dedicated IP, you’ll need to use a VPN service for now as Starlink use CG-NAT for IPv4

Is talking to the businesses next door about mounting a short range Wi-Fi antenna utilizing their ONU not an option?

Hmmm. So I have upgraded top 2.0.10 and I can now see the dishy pointing south in the middle but the scan direction is still to the north.

Ah I think I got it. They fixed the scan direction but the dome in the result screen still shows to the north although its a southern scan. so the result is now correct just displayed incorrectly.

A recent report from speedtest.net says “New Zealand: Starlink is faster than fixed broadband”.  This is based only on median speeds and it looks like a few people could benefit from better WiFi coverage in their homes.  However it is an interesting statement to consider.  (Normally I hate it when networks are ranked on median speeds)

The newest version of the Starlink app will make it pretty clear to people
when their Wi-Fi is the problem:

So I've had a fun weekend playing with my new toy. Still blows my mind when I've become so used to 10M/600k adsl.

Also discovered starlinkstatus.com. I see there are only 3 of us in NZ. How about a few more join up. There are a couple of changes needed in the bash script but in general it works well.

Finally my Starlink arrived! Yay. Now I just need to build the house! Lol.

Anyway was on property with the testing App and didn't look too good. While I wait i installed it at the neighbours house. His scenario for it was even worse with a bigger hill in the way. Anyway gave it a shot. App said it was abysmal positioning (both Android and iOS).

Result so far is absolutely awesome!!! Always 100Mbit+ up to 250Mbit. A few blips of outages in the 1-10sec range. And I guess the dish will need a while to get settled in. Anyway I am blown away. Really good service! Let's hope it stays that way. Now if only my Model 3 would get delivered... ;-)
