Shin:
It's no wonder I have 4~6kb/s ftp connection from my home to my personal server located in other side of pacific which has 100mbps dedicated access capacity. Download of a daily web access log sometimes cost more than a day huh...

I just simply don't understand how "traffic management" actually reduce gross traffic amount, may be some people got tired to waiting but most people just leave it to finish download anyway and if it's that time critical download, I don't think people even join the Go Large in first place.

So now I got question,

Is TCNZ refund announcement means that

1. They will refund Go Large payment period of 8th Dec ~ 28th Feb

2. The quality of Go Large is remains same as from 8th Dec

3. Change some wording of policy which was actually implemented from 8th Dec

Right?

1 and 2 is right.
3. was changed last night to reflect todays anoucment.
I had to remind our team that our xtra website still displayed Go Large info this mornning when i logged in so they changed it quick smart.

It's not gross traffic that matters but peak traffic or 'busy hour' traffic, like the motorway. Read up on erlang B network capacity and queueing theory for a few clues.

Bung: Of course it was a joke.

Another joke was Telecom's head of consumer marketing telling Mary Wilson on radio that the reason for so many people geting poor service was only discovered a week or so ago.

No joke, this info is correct unfortunatley...................

Yes, you're right this isn't a joke. How come there's such a disconnect between management and whoever is doing the work?
Protests on web forums only got so far, what was missing was some mainsteam media heat that hit the mark. Maybe Peter Nowak left too early.

Have been on Go Large since it started. Complained to Xtra about the shocking slow speed, especially around 7pm at night. And got the party line that the reason for the slow speed must be in the wiring in my home or my PC.
Tonight I changed from Go Large to Explorer. 2 hours later I was on Explorer and you've guessed it - I now have lightning fast internet!

So now the Telecom apologists have egg on their faces over the Go Large debacle...
Such classics as 'read the T&C's, you knew what you were getting', suddenly don't ring quite so true.
Gosh, customers weren't getting what they paid for after all. Who would have thought it?

Looks like the level-7 wasn't up to the task. Better get a refund on that technology fellas.

So much for the plan to grandparent the good plans, such as Adventure, and get all the medium-use customers onto Go Large (and perhaps grandparent the low-use plans at some future time).

A utopian future of 'managed' internet access for the majority of customers was just around the corner, but shoot, the master plan didn't come to fruition.

Feel free to flame, all you Telecom-apologist-bots. Just remember to charge-out the PR to the boss...

The only reason any of this came about is due to the lack of backhaul capacity that Telecom run. Hopefully this  will pull this issue to the front of their agenda. If there better backhaul there would be no reason to manage uncapped users.

On Go Large downloading ubuntu ISO from optus mirror right now. 180KBytes/Sec. That's not so bad.

I've changed back to Adventure this morning and still noticing similar disappointing speeds to when I was on Go Large. Checked my router settings and I'm still assigned to the 125.238.xxx.xxx range that I thought was reserved for Go Large customers... Have restarted several times and every time getting this IP range. Surely this isn't right? Any Telecom techs on here that can confirm? Thanks

Check to see if the plan change request has gone through yet (you will get an email notification or can call the helpdesk to check)... it can take a few hours after requesting it.

Ask them about a 'FO' service order (if I remember correctly that is a bb plan change request) and whether its been posted.

I am and have been for some 2yrs or so on the Adventure plan, all through this debarkle (and over the period since GoLarge was introduced) I have consistantly got 1.8-2.5Mb/s downloads, so I have not been effected by traffic management, however for sometime I have been on the ip range 125.239....., which is different to what was used 3-4months ago, so maybe there is a different range again for GoLarge users.

I know that the plan change request has gone through because when I go to the online usage meter it now says 'Adventure' at the top instead of 'Go Large'.... any ideas?

It looks like Telecom may also get stung by the ComCom for false advertising on Go Large as well.

People complained from the start that Go Large wasn't "Unlimited" as advertised. The limitations were clearly stated in the fine-print, but that's not good enough based on the recent ComCom ruling about the "Freedom Plan" - http://www.stuff.co.nz/3971831a10.html:

The voice-over on the advertisement said "you can call as much as you like". However, the complainant noted small print on the screen added the qualifier "normal charges apply after 60 minutes". This meant the offer was not unlimited, the complainant said, making the voice-over "misleading and inappropriate". Telecom argued the terms and conditions of the plan were clearly identifiable in the advertisement. However, the board ruled the condition "significantly diminished the offer," and the advertisement was likely to mislead a consumer.

The case against the Go Large offer of unlimited broadband seems similar to me.

While I'm delighted the Commerce Commission is so proactive in keeping advertisers straight, it's only going to be a matter of time before the voice-over starts reading out the entire list of terms and conditions (like I've heard in some countries) :-(

OK I got to the bottom of this -- I hope. Xtra advise that although the change of plan as far as billing goes has gone through, their system does not make the technical changes until the following midnight. Which means I should be back up to normal speed tomorrow morning. I thought I'd post this in case other Go Largers experience the same and panic like I did!! For a minute I was thinking "Great, so now I have the exact same speed and connection dropping issues, only I'm paying $10 per month more and have a 10GB data limit."
