consent or not, that is piss poor. Did the installers get hired from WINZ, or their managers have rocks in their heads to approve such a meathod. I gaurentee that this was no where near the level of instalation, chorus submitted in their ufb tender.......

Same thing happened to me as well, Visionstream sent a bunch of people to my house in Remuera without me seeing any of the plans etc and just started putting fibre on the retaining wall along the drive way.
Despite the fact that all other services are undergroud (I recently paid Vector Gas 1.2k+ to have natural gas connected)

Not very happy with the exposed cables, anyone could have damaged them accidentally.

I have never been given a job number or signed an installation consent like the one below
http://www.chorus.co.nz/file/50970/NDF-240-Ultra-Fast-Broadband-Installation-Consent-Form-FINAL.pdf

wilsonhurst
was handling my consent process as well as my neighbour's, I have only sent them the ROW consent form from my neighbor and indicated to them that I am the properly owner. I would never have agreed to anything other than an underground install like all my other utilities (gas, electric, telephone)

I have been on holiday for the past 6 weeks and only got a phone call to advise someone is doing the surveying then I came home only to find this (they are sending someone on 16th Dec to finish the internal installation).

Yep, so ring and ask if the consent form is a requirement prior to work, if they keep them on file and request a copy.

Ring whom? I called Slingshot right after I discovered the mess and they told me to contact the installer when they return on 16th Dec ?!

I can't believe this is happening. It's going to be leaky homes all over again. What is up with NZ and cost cutting on all kinds of stuff these days?!

I am just curious, are other companies like ultrafast for example also follow the same rules?

Its a classic example of Chrous not spending the money to do the job properly in the first place. When there is an issue with the fibre down the track they will bill the homeowner for the repairs when clearly they the ones at fault. There are so many issues wrong with the examples shown and should not be accepted.

Simple, your contract is with slingshot. Ring them.

No joy then ring chorus and tell them their subcontractor is a monkey and they need to kick some butt

No joy ring crown fibre holdings and ask why they are allowing chorus to rip them off

No joy ring your local national mp .... And explain what you are planning next

No joy ring fair go and show them the amazing job vision stream is doing, just get everyone on geek zone that has had or has seen a bad vision stream install to send in a photo.

This is what I would call an acceptable install for an existing house.

not only was it done correctly, it was inspected by Chorus 2 weeks after the install. It was checked for how the waterproofing was done, how the footpath was cut, was there any exposed micro duct at the ONT (not acceptable), he even used a level to check both the ONT and the ETP. So obviously in some parts of the country the standards are far superior to others

My UFF installers gave me lots of options when coming into the house. with conduit or internal wall options.

I have issues was with the contractor that layed the ducting into our street all those years ago.
1. Took out power coming into the street on my brothers wedding day (fun)
2. 2 months after they left the sewer blocked for a few houses, CCTV discovered a fibre duct through the line. UFF fixed, but still having issues with things hanging around and causing a smell. Yet to investigate further.
3. Our fibre drop was placed in the middle of our front section, not the side where the phone line is, wife queried the installers on the day they dug the trench, but according to them there were following plans.

Aside from that UFF trenched the fibre diagonally to the side of the house and then the install was fine. We will have issue if we plant a tree in the front section but we know the cable is there so will steer clear of that.

Currently CHORUZNZ has offered to look into it for me so I will see where that leads.

At this point short of getting in touch with Crown fibre, local politicians or the media I can't see a resolution any better than having an exposed venerable cable running down the drive.

The quality of the internal work is as far as I can tell very good.

UFF was responsible for ours when we first got it installed, they made sure i was home for the scoping of the job, and from memory they actually did the scoping and the internal wiring on the first day, while i was home.  I had to sign a consent form before they started the work.

Then a second set of contractors came out to do the work from the boundary to the ETP and again we decided how to do it, so i signed another form of consent, and stayed around while they did that, although i didnt have to, as long as we had decided how it was to be run, but these guys buried it underground using the existing copper ducting and put everything back tidily.

a 3rd visit was to basically just blow the fibre from the cabinet to the ETP, and then the last visit i had to sign a form stating i was happy with the work, before they livened it up.  Apart from the ETP you'd never know i had fibre. Very happy with the work.
