On request of some who posted here I've contacted Woosh - and guess what? The person I know no longer works for them...

I will try again, but I would just start going away...

I have been using Woosh wireless for  more than 2 years and generally have found the service quite good.

On a few occasions I have had problems it has been frustrating to often have long delays to talk to a Customer Service person and sometimes when speaking with them they have either failed to acknowledge a Woosh network problem or clearly haven't had a great IT knowledge - that being said I have until recently been overall pleased with their service and considered it quite good value in that it has generally provided good speeds and has been portable when either using it elsewhere in Auckland or in Christchurch/Wellington etc... - a big advantage compared to fixed line DSL.

Recently however I have not been able to connect to a small number of overseas websites via Woosh and this problem has persisted for weeks - I was able to connect via a Telecom connection and the problem was definitely with the Woosh network provision - something which they acknowledged - I was pleasantly suprised that they didn't try to tell me that it was the computer etc... The problem was also replicated at a relative's place using their Woosh wireless.

Anyway when I submitted an online support request they were supposed to get back to me within 48 hours - no one did in several days so I phoned - waited - was told that the network people had also had the problem from a test bench - they said that were escalating the problem to network management  - would hear back! - didn't - phoned again some days later - no update - requested $10 credit - told could only have $7 credit, someone would get back to me next day - was phoned next day and told that problem was with upstream provider AsiaNet - told that IHUG also use same upstream provider and also had same problem - told that AsiaNet had been contacted and someone would get back to me - didn't hear anything for 1 wk so phoned again - no update - requested further $7 credit, was told could only have $6 credit and THAT this would be LAST credit for this issue - told them that would take the $6 credit but would not accept that this would be the last credit for the issue if it wasn't resolved - was told that their T&C say they don't have to provide a continuous service - told them that the Consumer laws say that they have to provide a suitable expected service which should mean that there should not be websites which I can't access for >1month. Haven't heard anything more and haven't had time to call them back yet but am getting quite frustrated!.

As followup to above thought I'd just check my Woosh webmail again as I haven't been using it regularly.

Wow! With all those problems I don't know what you guys are still doing paying Woosh...

And fighting over a $6 credit with a CSR?

I would be out of that in a hurry...

I've been calling woosh for last 12 days every two days and ask about issuee....

what i was told each time to monitor the speed... today, they told me to switch to different plan - that would help.

also they told, flat rate customers would have always that speed :) all of us connected to only on "exit" to world and we consume all da traffic :)

... 6 moths of contract to go... don't know what to do :(

for crediting the account, they told me to wait at least the week... 'coz issue is not known when to be resolved...

Mauricio  Thank you for trying. I just called woosh and the usual there is a problem and it will be repaired. They were trying for this weekend but! (Tui Commercial)
I would be serious about switching and fight the contract but other main ISP's are   having problems also. Seems hit and miss. No problems then suddenly a lot of different exchanges and areas. I never go over 20G but I do download and I do not want to be charged for phone I will not use. Telecom will have the speeds up in 4 years can see the cost of that. If only someone would take over Woosh wireless and instal decent hardware they would rule. Ah well back to chisel and stone at least the greens will be happy  technology is dead for a while yet in New Zealand.

To Mauricio  ..  thankyou for trying to help.   It is appreciated.

Not leaving Woosh at moment,  it is the last of the unlimited accounts. And I want to get what I contracted for.

2.45pm  speedtest to  LA. 4 Kbytes.

To those thinking of leaving, I suggest demmanding that their contract be meet.

To Mauricio,  who do we complain to,  if not happy.   My MP  is Aunty Helen  :-)

     regards
                Bruce.

Who are the other providers supposedly having problems? Usually if a provider is having a problem I see threads about it. I'm not seeing any threads on trademe's computer forum or anywhere else.
As far as I can tell it's just us at woosh.

You can't access certain sites, you say?
How can that be? Someone has to be blocking them on purpose...

Edit: Oh, and I was going to post my speed test result but the connection is so slow, the results page won't come up.
Greeeeeeeaaaaaattttt.....

I think the thing that bothers me most is that we keep getting different answers.
If they're speed capping us then I'd really prefer to know, so I can just move elsewhere.
If there is a genuine problem, then tell me and I'll be a lot more patient while they sort it out.
As it is, I don't know weather to just jump ship or wait another few days to see if they can fix it.
Bloody annoying!

I checked over at http://www.gpforums.co.nz/forum/Hardware-Tech-Help/ , the Gameplanet forums and there are a few people on the ISP's Orcon and Xnet complaining about the same thing we're having and getting the same kind of speeds. Obviously not all customers are affected and who knows why some are and some aren't.

It has been suggested that single stream protocols such as http, ftp, are affected and of course it's the international streams, not the local ones.

So at least we aren't alone.
Which does leave one asking, "Why ME?" in a pathetic, whiney tone. ;)

I'm not sure if it makes me feel better or worse, but at least it does prove that moving providers may not be an answer.

  hmmmmmm,
trying to get some logic in my head:

Mr Newnans problem is with wireless.  As is a few others. (not something Woosh would mess with deliberately).

Talk of unlimited accounts being throttled or shaped.  I was assurred by team leader it was not the case.

Other ISPs  with similar problems   Xnet and Orcan     but a lesser amount.

        Rumours of Telecom playing games.

Talk of Asianet  and international traffic.

Conclusion:   shrugs shoulders.  :-)   Wonders if is two issues.   Unlimited accounts being throttled, to help sort other problem.

Comment:   last  person standing, with unlimited account,  gets bandwidth all to himself; for at least a day.

Mate called them yesterday about the performance, since we were going to move the connection to my place to use it since its the only flatrate adsl and we were assured it was a tempory thing.

As usual they suggested moving to another plan, yeah right, all their plans suck compared with other isp's.

Then they said that we only had to the 22nd of november on the contract for orbit flatrate. at which time we would have to change to another plan - WTF we thought, just 2 weeks ago they said it would be fine to move it to another place but there would be another 12 month contract or $99 payable.

Now it turns out if we move, we have to choose a suckky plan and be stuck on it for 12 months, as they have decided that we cant transfer the orbit flatrate to a new house.

Good thing we found out yesterday and not next week after telecom had moved the phoneline that was only being moved to keep the internet plan.
