@Mush1364 You're testing via WiFi... There's your problem.

ALWAYS test via Ethernet. Also I don't see any issues here with your speeds either.

Yep fully understand that, my tests performed for the ISP were all wires tests (with isp supplied router + my own as well on some tests) and the samknows box is also hardwired, on the 17th i replaced my router with a newer model and my speed generally has trended upward. I'm a lot happier with my speeds now as they are more inline with my expectations.

What i cannot get my brain around is if my hardware is the same which produced the trend below (apart from the new router) then why has this trend changed? The only thing would be me moving house which lead me to believe there may be something to do with my connection that is outside my equipment. But am told its something i've done (or haven't done)

Have you selected the options in Samknows.one to break out the various servers in that report, or are you still showing the average of the tests (including tests to the other side of the world?)

I split the data and only displayed the nz data, Oz trend is similar but can at times be faster than nz (I have had a 920mbps bench to Oz on a wireless connection but that only happened once and it was early hours of the morning). Apart from OZ, oversees download trends are consistent over 6mth trends i have posted.

I've also got a samknows box and see speeds have increased - upon digging, thats cause the speeds to Sydney have... NZ on the other hand still chugging along at 1/2 the plan speed.

@Mush1364 Again, you need to provide more information.

It looks like you're using a consumer-grade Wireless AX router. For starters, the specification on 802.11AX has not been finalized and secondly these routers have weak routing performance on all the one's I have tested and can't route full Gigabit. If your router advertises itself as "GAMING, REDUCES PING, ELIMINATE LAG" (in caps, because they do) then I am 99% sure that your router will actually be slowing you down as all these "GAMING" features are done in software, and not hardware and are not suited for faster connections. This is why myself, along with many other people agree these routers are a complete waste of money.

Otherwise, seriously, nothing wrong with your connection. I think you can just move on here.

My understanding is that you are only guaranteed your CIR value (something like 2.5mbps or 10mbps).

WOW that's like buying a car with a warranty which lasts till it's off the lot :)

I've check most things except CPU load but being only one home I expect it should not be an issue....thx

If any company tried to rely on those numbers then there would be a clear FTA and CGA problem.

That may be the LFCs SLA with chorus but that's not what is advertised so can't be used as any sort of backstop with a consumer.

Fortunately the service is much better than that.

And BOOM goes the dynamite!!

@tanivula

Well i asked Orcon for a static IP, 2-7 days turned in only a few hours, am most impressed with how fast they got this done. Anyway things may have improved, below is a test done on my wireless connection with results i can reproduce. Also even a quick test to a LA server got me just over 800mbps, early days yet i will need to do some more testing especially wired tests and see over the next few days how the samknows box charts things... Also dslreports test now gives me A+ ratings on all 3 tests, and NO buffer bloat.

Am hopeful

@Mush1364

Where are you located and could you test what speeds you get from both Christchurch and Auckland VocusGroup NZ Speed test servers?

He is located in Invercargill, so most if not all traffic will be routed through Christchurch at least

I just wanted to know if he can get gigabit speeds from Vocusgroup NZ Christchurch and Auckland servers.

I’m based in Wellington and I can only get on average 1/3 to 2/3 of my gigabit connection when testing Vocusgroup NZ speed test servers but can get gigabit speeds when testing other speed test servers such as ACSData, 2degrees, Stuff Fibre etc.

It seems Christchurch and Auckland are not affected and can get gigabit speeds no problem when testing Vocusgroup NZ servers but outside of those 2 locations there seems to be not 1 geekzone member who can get gigabit speeds outside Christchurch and Auckland so somehow Vocusgroup NZ is bottlenecking these connections outside Christchurch and Auckland.

I'm locking this now. There is nothing wrong your connection and even though people have asked multiple times now you're failing to provide any useful information.

As many people have said, Speedtest is not a measure of your actual connection performance.
