haha not even there is still 3 and a bit weeks till then. plenty of time to do a heap more cabinets/exchanges

w00t, have jumped on the 998 train....

Speedtest via wifi on ze ol laptop... Like some others, there seems to have been 2 resyncs, for me it was at 1am and 8am. Let the pings reduce!!!

Just had an upgrade here in Hataitai, went from 31/10 to 49/10, downstream attenuation shows around 12dB both before and after, it takes me approx 800m to walk.

Speedtest.net results https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4877426176

So well impressed.

Yep..gone from 47/10 sync to 69932/29996 Saint Johns area, AKL. Will try a speedtest later via ethernet. Very happy with my 47/10 before so no complaints here ☺

Resynced again this morning (Day 5) and noticed i was back to DLM-1, dropped a tiny bit of upstream.

Hope thats the last of my resyncs for a while

Well Voyager are adamant that they don't need to do anything to give me full access to band 988. They say they checked with Chorus who told them it was a Chorus side change.

Is there some official documentation that tells them what is required?

Is there some official documentation that tells them what is required?

wow, they really are retarded, im pretty sure it has ZERO to do with chorus once you are on 998.

I was initially limited to 11mbps up because spark havent finished rolling out their upgrades, but once that was done i went up to 28mbps up. this was AFTER i had switched to 998 by chorus.

There may be ISPs that don't run their own policer/schedulers on their equipment before customer traffic gets passed to Chorus. Spark does do this and the settings align with the negotiated DSL sync speed.

If an ISP doesn't have this capability configured then that ISP doesn't have to make any changes to support the greater speeds some people will realise with the 998 bandplan change.

Whether or not it's a good idea for an ISP to do this is left as an exercise for the reader.

If the ISP has static limits set it's a problem, but if it really is shaping to the negotiated DSL sync speed then there shouldn't be an issue?

There are standards like:
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4679

For passing through sync speed, which will still work on a 998 bandplan change, whereas statically limiting connections to 70/10 or such won't.

I'm all for limiting to negotiated sync speed with decent queueing to improve performance significantly over dumb policers.

But static limits and fixed queue depths tend to mean non-linear performance.

I'll have to put my hand up here and say it wasn't as best I can tell a Voyager issue. My connection had been dropped a couple of times, but the router was not fully restarted by me (I was on holiday when it went to Band 988). A firmware update and full reboot that followed seems to have me at 70/30 with a speedtest within 10% of that.

@ianajmes Spark have to upgrade some back end stuff for you to be able to see line speed on a 17a line. they are working on that at the moment. Unsure of the time frame but they have a bit fo kit to upgrade.

well my upload speed have been boosted, which is what i was after, but i found that i had to shape outbound traffic to the sync speed (well 9/10 of the sync speed is about general overhead number) in order to get fast single threaded smooth uploads internationally, otherwise it'd get up to speed then drop off then get up to speed again. get about 36 megabit upload internationally now, not too bad...
