I am using a Dreytek Vigor130 and when I use the STD firmware I get much better upload speeds, they jumped from about 2000 to the current at about 5000 after a week or so on the STD over the modem4 firmware, I see now they are enabling vectoring on a lot of exchanges so I'd benefit from modem4 firmware but I'm scared to flash back to modem4 incase it slows my upload right back down.

Is there a way to find out if my exchange supports vectoring yet, I'm in Lumsden, Rural southland.

Your cabinet is not enabled for Vectoring.

Currently Chorus are only running Vectoring in 2 exchange areas.

They also are only running vectoring (gains atleast) on Downstream.

So is it best I just stay on standard firmware and not the vectoring firmware, as I do get better speeds on upload with the std, only problem is if they enable vectoring on my cabinet and i don't know it I may be missing out on any performance increase

You may find the speed bump was coincidental.

Different modems will sync differently, Particularly with upstream there is typically a more broad range depending on chipset vs dslam

Different software implementations can adjust this slightly.

IMO, your speed boost, I'd leave it be for now.

When i see more dslams go live (with the actual enabling not just the upgraded card) i'll be sure to let you all know.

i still need to get around to running some stats that i was going to post awhile back to vectoring.

Didn't feel it was fair to comment on lines when ddDLM was settling with the changes of Vectoring though.

I fiddled the other day flashing on the gvector firmware to my vigor130 to see if it would make a difference to my line speed, i rebooted the modem a couple of times in the process and then left it 2 days, the speed wasn't better so i flashed back the std firmware, now overnight last night DLM has decided to slow me right down after being at my other speed for a couple of years, is it likely to go back to normal or do i need to contact my isp and get them to do a port reset or anything?

I'm a bit annoyed as I never really had fast speed so now i'm even slower!

@phrunt Stop turning modem off and on and DLM takes up to 10 days and no don't do a port reset via ISP

Any news on where vectoring is enabled? I'm in the Parnell area and my cabinet is just at the end of my street so I've been getting 70/30 up/down speeds for years. I tried putting the 3.8.2 modem8 firmware on my Vigor 130 and I can see I have an attainable rate listed at 110848, but I'm only getting 70000.

Would that attainable rate suggest I'm on a cabinet that is capable of vectoring?

you will be getting UFB so you are NOT getting vectroing

attainable rate means nothing, chorus has a limit of 70/30 on ikanos line cards cant change that.

If your still getting 70/30 then your nor even on the linecards.

You wont be getting vectoring though. due to being a chorus UFB area.

Use Modem 4 Firmware to me more stable and meant for NZ
Should hopefully lower your upstream error rate

Looks about right when I had similar Downstream rate.

Leave for a few days as you're on 8b profile, ddDLM should bring this to 17b is all is well with your line.
You running STD Firmware version ? as quite a few stats are missing if yes update to Modem 4, then that page should fill
Modem 4 is also Vectoring capable and STD is not.
