INP is saying 1 and 1

It really might just be noise while lines adjust, and it may go back to INP 0 and drop back to DLM-1 in one go or with some more 4 am syncs :)

I've been on 998 for a few weeks now, i would have thought all the automated fiddling with my lines would be done by now?

Ahh you were early. Maybe you'll be stuck on there? That kind of sucks if that's the new standard :(

If your line stabilised late then it may take longer for DLM to make changes.

If you actually have an unstable line you may want to log a fault with your ISP.

one person earlier said it took them a month to get back to DLM-1 after the change.

Pretty happy with that. :)

(still no fibre until 2019 though)

Hi there,

I used to have 40/10 and now I have 25/10. I have also noticed a major increase in latency when gaming online either on pc or xbox one (major rubber-band lag). However, it seems my modem stats disagree as shown later below. I do not know much about networking but I noticed my interleaving stats are crazy, perhaps that's why I'm getting insane lag. My modem also shows a higher actual rate than 40/10. Can someone please tell me what I could do to decrease my online lag and also increase my current download output.

You're syncing at 70/30 but getting 25/10. Log a fault with your ISP.

Same thing has happened to me tonight. Speed dropped from 50/10 to 25/10. Ping has gone from 7ms to 23ms. It is almost as though 998 has been rolled back from our cabinet and DLM restarted.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

All I can say is it's quite disappointing

VDSL Band Plans The 998 VDSL band plan is more asymmetric, meaning higher download speeds (at the expense of lower upload speeds) compared to speed achieved under the 997 band plans. Customers could expect to see faster download speeds if NZ transitioned to the 998 band plan with little impact on upload speed as the upload speed of the 997 if limited by profile to 10Mbps.

(little impact my butt I lost 3Mbps up and considering I only had 10Mbps to start with this shouldn't have gotten any worse than it was already....)

The most widely supported plan is 998ADE which is actually the least symmetrical. Note that 997 is asymmetric, just less so than 998. Given that most countries are using 998ADE, symmetric services provided must be within the bounds of what can be delivered via 998ADE.

Agree... In individual cases it will be quite disappointing. On the whole however it's delivering significant improvements and gets us out of an orphaned technology hole before it bit us. There really weren't any sensible alternative and yes a few people are going to have a reduction in performance.

Your specific comment about your line "shouldn't have gotten any worse" is simply wrong. It is working as designed and expected that some lines will drop some upload speed - even some that synced at 10Mbps before the upgrade. That is NOT unexpected.

Actually it was unexpected when your ISP say's nothing about what may or may not happen in the change over..... If I had not of been a frequenter of geekzone I'd never have known why it's done what it has

just as a further question does Chorus use G.Vector on it's gear like for what it says in the VDSL2 wiki

Vectoring is a transmission method that employs the coordination of line signals for reduction of crosstalk levels and improvement of performance. It is based on the concept of noise cancellation, much like noise-cancelling headphones. The ITU-T G.993.5 standard, "Self-FEXT cancellation (vectoring) for use with VDSL2 transceivers" (2010), also known as G.vector, describes vectoring for VDSL2. The scope of Recommendation ITU-T G.993.5 is specifically limited to the self-FEXT (far-end crosstalk) cancellation in the downstream and upstream directions. The far end crosstalk (FEXT) generated by a group of near-end transceivers and interfering with the far-end transceivers of that same group is cancelled. This cancellation takes place between VDSL2 transceivers, not necessarily of the same profile

I had another sync at 430 today. Speed dropped from 50/9.5 to 43/8

Impulse noise protection is now 2 and 2

Any ideas?

Maybe DLM freaking out.
$20 says chorus change the bandplan but DLM is still setup for 997.

It's not like we've had a mass DLM reset at once before. It takes a while for everything to adjust to the right place I suppose.

I also wonder if interference will be worse with the higher transmit powers being used now. i think 13.5db to 14.5+db change - when normal used to be 13.5 for normal lines or 18.5 for long lines.

When i was on 998 a year or so ago i had 14.5db and it was ruthless.
If i synced my other vdsl line before it would connect at 50/10, If i turned my test line on after it synced there would be so much interference it would drop the line and it would resync at 30/10.

Must have ruined the neighborhoods VDSL for a while there.
