I'm about 120m from the cabinet on the same side of the street. I don't have a master filter but I won't be using the phone line when I switch to vdsl.

@Reido: Ah that might make it hard. If possible it would be worth finding out where the incoming line enters the building and how it's wired up. If you're in Auckland and don't want too much hassle it might be worth contacting coffeebaron on these forums and he can probably sort you out.

@HowickDota: Very nice; Should see some good sync rates then :) Even if you won't be using the phoneline and won't have anything else plugged into other jackpoints, if you have multiple jackpoints it may be worth ensuring you connect the fritzbox to the closest one to the demarc and disconnect the rest - I believe VDSL can be much more sensitive to unterminated stubs than ADSL.

Your attenuation is really high, I think above Chorus' recommended cutoff for VDSL. But you are still hitting the cap on upload speed. I think that's a good indication that anything less than full speed on upload indicates a problem.

Hmmm, true. I think the cutoff is something like 11db so quite surprising they connected at all with that attenuation. Does the pre-qual check that they do maybe exclude wiring on the premises? That's why I'm wondering if there are wiring issues... not really sure what the relationship is between the attenuation they get on pre-qual tests and what the fritzbox shows - it seems a few people have got VDSL connected with attenuation showing well over that.

@Reido: Maybe you're just further away from the cabinet than you think. If you plug your address into the chorus SAT (http://www.chorus.co.nz/sat) what does it look like? You can probably guess from that where you cabinet is and approx distance to it.

(I seem to recall also finding a chorus spreadsheet somewhere a while back with lat\lngs for all cabinets in auckland for a more exact measure; anybody have a copy or link to it?)

Pretty sure the cabinet is at the end of my road, which is only about 200-300 meters. This is right in the center of the cabinet area shown on the SAT.

The Line attenuation was about 15-16db when I was on ADSL2, but I was only getting about 6mbps down. So theres gotta be a problem somewhere?

17db was the number that I was thinking of, but I'm not sure. I'd assume it does exclude the wiring on the premises.

Yeah, sounds like something ain't right (If you are indeed that close to the cabinet) Coffeebaron is probably your best bet to ensure your internal wiring is up to scratch.

The cabinets aren't always in the centre of their areas. The cabinet I am on is surprising close to edge of its zone. The wiring doesn't always follow most direct route to the cabinet either.

No, there is nothing obviously wrong with your connection, except that the attenuation seems high if the cabinet really is only 300m away. The VDSL reported attenuation is always a bit higher than ADSL shows (I believe because VDSL uses higher frequencies which attenuate faster with distance). 50% higher seems about right so your VDSL connection is consistent with what I'd expect given your ADSL stats.

My comment about issues was really meant as a general point - we've seen connections before with lower than max upload speed and I think that indicates a problem with those connections.

Well, it seems sidefx is right, and the Fritzbox can't display an INP of 1.

As predicted, I had a resync at 4:12 am with no visible change to latency or INP, but speed has gone up marginally. I would say I'm on DLM-2 now, rather than how it looked on Monday.

Next stop, DLM-1?

@gmanp: Nice one, yeah the behaviour with DLM6-DLM4-DLM2 and the fritzbox not showing DLM4 properly seems to match the behaviour a number of people have noticed here myself included (and elswhere - I think @stevehodge first brought it up because on some other forum others were noticing the same thing)

With any luck you might see DLM1 soon, though those CRC errors are looking alike they've increased a fair bit? A couple of months ago I would have said there's no way you'll get (and stay) on DLM1 with CRCPM on DLM2 is 0.43 per minute. But recently it seems the allowable error rates have been relaxed. Due to SNR tweaking I now have CRCPM at over 1 and a number of others have similar rates and are still on DLM1. Though I don't know if many people have seen upgrades from DLM2 to DLM1 with CRCPM at those sorts of rates. I'd say leave it for a couple of weeks (at least, maybe more like 5 weeks) if nothing happens in that time, then think about increasing you target SNRM to reduce errors.

Yeah, the rise in CRCPM is concerning. When I get home I might do a manual resync and/or change some settings tonight to see if what happens.

@gmanp: I know it's hard to resist fiddling; I'm torn on whether you should try at tweak it early on after connection. I would probably try to leave it for a few days at least and see if it settles.

@Zeon: Wow, very nice :) Any particular reason you think the Zyxel might not support DLM1? I previously looked at the Zyxel and sort of assumed since it supported up to 17a everything "below" that would be fine.
