I got my VDSL connected on Monday, it initially had a low sync rate of around 25000 but I knew the wiring was a mess. I was going to get Coffeebaron out to check it all but with it being Xmas and money being tight at this time of year I decided to get into the roof and run a cable myself.....

Well after much swearing and sweating I ended up coming back online with a 35000 sync rate and a very low error rate. As of last night I received a new DLM profile and it looks like I've actually gone backwards to DLM-3 from DLM-6 and the errors have gone through the roof, slightly disappointing considering the much better line that it is now running on....

I asked snap to reset the DLM with all the mucking around with the wiring but they can't do it until after the initial 7-10 days and then only if there are still issues. So guess I will just have to be patient and hope things start going the correct way!

Possibly, it's also possible something is not quite right with the cable I ran. Unfortunately can't really get anything done until the DLM does it's initial thing.

There were hardly any errors last night until the DLM change.

Can you post the spectrum and statistics tabs?

Nothing obviously wrong with the spectrum. Errors are pretty high but we already knew that.

HowickDota: I'm about 120m from the cabinet on the same side of the street. I don't have a master filter but I won't be using the phone line when I switch to vdsl.

The mere fact you have POTS off makes no difference at all.

If you have multiple jackpoints you need a master filter, no if's or buts. If you don't VDSL2 performance will be degraded.

@gmanp: Recent evidence indicates that Chorus have increased the acceptable error limit required to stay on DLM-1, but we're not sure what this new limit is yet. So all is not lost! :)

Keep us posted with how you go!

Yeah, might be alright at 6 CRCPM, let us know how it goes, I'd be very interested to see if it is acceptable as if it is I'll bump target SNRM down even more. ;-) I've now been on CRCPM > 1 (but less than 2 - or maybe less than 1.5, it seems the fritzbox might round to the nearest integer when errors are over 1?) for a good while with no DLM downgrade yet.

I have multiple jack points and no master filter. I still sync at 42Mbps with 0.7 CRCpm. That being said once I run a straight cat5e cable I could see close to max sync rate hopefully when I actually get round to do that.

So I had 2 resyncs last night about an hour apart. DLM looks the same but error rate has dropped right down on CRC but FEC is up quite a bit..so not really sure what is going on

So you expect to see an improvement when you run your new cable? That suggests it is being degraded.

Yeah my point was just that it although my connection will be degraded its not going to make that much of a difference as my line is perfectly fine as it is for speed and errors.

If I could I'd happily run a new cable the 200m's back to the cabinet :)

That might be a good rule-of-thumb, but it was not my experience. When I first got VDSL the modem was pluged into the second of two jackpoints connected with standard unshielded, untwisted cable. I replaced that with a cat6 star layout (with a patch panel so there is a single, direct cat6 path between the ETP and the modem) and I have seen no improvement in either sync rate or error rate.
