It would be better if the data caps were not restrictive....30Gb for $90 is not enough. I do not mind paying the $90, but i would hope to get 50gb or more....

OP, Amy would be the one to contact. She and the nats do a good job with ufb / rbi.
Couldn't hurt raising awareness with her, she would likely have the contacts required to expedite the exchange / cabinets being upgraded.

If I was a betting man, I would say that National are probably going to win. Whether they upgrade your broadband or not is another question.

What could the Selwyn DC do?

What about MBIE or the Commerce Commission? They are the two parties responsible for the regulated broadband offering which you are unhappy with.

It seems ridiculous that we pay the same as towns nearby who have 100mb connections and no issues but we have ( as I understand it) 20 year old switches with no plans to upgrade.

The switch will be the POTS switch i.e what you use to make your phone calls. While the broadband connection goes over the same pair of wires as your POTS service that's about the only connection the two services have.

The broadband signal is piggy backing on your POTS service between the exchange and your house. It keeps the cost down other wise you'd be paying for an extra cable pair. That's why you you have a splitter/master filter at the house to separate the two services and there's an equivalent at the exchange.

Chorus will not spend their money upgrading their network, lost case there. I too am supportive of your cause and am surprised that kirwee missed out on that National govt announcement for additional towns oh that's right they have substantially better service than we have already.

If the Chorus network got that congested cause of a couple of people who got onto unlimited plans it does show how tight they are running things. With 3000 odd residents if you can get coverage within the area having a vdsl upgrade should be relatively easy, but if not vdsl don't bother.

Since there is no congestion at both places it is "working as designed" and you can still do everything that us city slickers can do including streaming Lightbox, Netflix at 1080P and even downloading stuff. Yes, I am typing this off a FAR more congested ASAM than Outram and no, I am not complaining, it works well.

I honestly don't see what you guys are complaining about, sure it isn't 100mbit but if you didn't want to pay for Chorus (a company) to pay for your upgrades either. Just be happy you have faster internet than most people in Australia still and if you're still not happy then either pay Chorus or move, simple as that.
