Sorry, you are wrong. I cannot stream netflix between 6pm and 11pm. During peak hours I cannot load you tube videos at any rate without buffering issues, I have not tried lightbox but assume would suffer same fate.

My peak usage (6pm to 11pm) my download speeds are .5mbps megabits, not megabytes.

Not good enough and I can't do what "city slickers" can do.

Yeah but you don't have to wait 40minutes on a motorway to get to work everyday do you? Fair trade off I think.

Theclaytons: Had me wanting to sign up until I saw the off peak hours and the install costs.

Only because we have got use to cheap router and micro filter deals for our fixed line. When I setup fixed line broadband for customers, it costs them $400-$500+. $200-300+ for a decent router and $200 to do the wiring and setup.

So broadband speed is now based on the relative cost of land?

How do you explain Horoata (very small town not far from me) having ADSL2 when their cost of land is much less....

It probably comes down to the best option. They are probably covered by the RBI DSL scheme, and you are covered by RBI wireless.

Well it is a good thing that you /might/ be getting RBI isn't it? Else just sign up to RBI Wireless, it works well and is your solution to faster internet.

You've also got Farmside who do off-peak plans with big data blocks.

Really, here in NZ there is plenty of options for faster internet if you're willing to pay for it - plenty of WISP's, RBI Wireless and Satellite covers the whole country so really, just either pay up, move house or quit your complaining.

Well it is a good thing that you /might/ be getting RBI isn't it? Else just sign up to RBI Wireless, it works well and is your solution to faster internet.

Off peak plans are not really useful for people who keep regular hours. In fact it makes me think that they offer these off peak plans as the RBI solution in place cannot handle load at peak times so they try and push the traffic to alternate hours.

I'm not complaining at paying, I've always stated I'm happy to pay more that urban addresses for reasonable broadband (I'd be happy with 5mbps down between 6pm and 11pm) i just don't think i should have to pay triple the cost to achieve this.

John, you appear to work for Vodafone, what options do we have to go through Vodafone to see if they would be interested in upgrading exchange? I imagine the uptake of Vodafone broadband in Kirwee would be large if one telco invested in the community....

Vodafone plc are the world's second biggest mobile operator, only after China Mobile, I really doubt they will put money into upgrading a small town for free.

Chorus own the exchange / hardware you are connected to, They are the ones that need to do the upgrade
