Hey - thanks heaps for that... much appreciated.  My trigger finger is hovering over the 'JOIN XNET' button at the moment but might just wait for the official good or bad news.  Woosh have been really good up until this glitch - but their fault or not, the way they handled the communication to customers is not excusable.  I feel sorry for the call centre staff who have probably taken a lot of flak because some senior management have dropped the ball here.

BTW - 250Gig is just a stupid amount to be downloading.  They should just kick those idiots off.  I went nuts one month downloading Linux images and game demos... seemed like I was downloading constantly and all I did was 42Gig.  Most months I'm around 20-25Gig.  I would be more than happy with a 40-50Gig cap then returning to dialup.

Unlimited -  in my my dictionary  means  without limit.
Any one with a desire for 250 gigabytes of Bolivian flute music,  has every right to use the account for that,
 each and every month.
I downloaded 2.2  terabytes  in last 9 months.   Could of doiwnloaded  more,  but like to do it in a relaxed style.
Do not feel guilty in any way,  purchased the account  and  discussed  "10 gig per day "  with the Woosh staff.
Think  NZ  is one of very few countrys that charge for data volume.  Helps put us amongst the third world of  commumications.
Over the years  been some huge profiteering in communications.
Telecom  is an agent of Wosshes,  not of mine.   And Woosh designed my contract, not me.  No  remorse at all.

       regards,
                         Bruce

PS   I do  not regard myself as an idiot.

Hey Bruce - no offence meant at all - I don't think you are an idiot.

I just think (personal opinion)  that 250Gig is in the 'grossly excessive' catagory and knowing how Woosh have to gamble on most users being 'reasonable' with their usage - these small bunch of id.. opps I mean 'users' may have contributed to the problem we are currently facing.

But - offering 'unlimited' plans was probably a darn stupid thing to do in the first place huh?

We return now to our scheduled programming and await the official word with baited breath....

It should be remembered that Telecom cannot be blamed for all the problems - I am on Woosh Wireless and have a 11Gb monthly limit - mostly never reach 8Gb.
My post earlier was about not being able to reach some international sites - the network people I spoke to at Woosh said that it was a problem with Asianet who is apparently their upstream provider - they said that the reason that I COULD access the same sites from a Corporate Telecom connection was that Telecom had their own connections to overseas backbones and did not go via AsiaNet. They told me that IHUG also uses Asianet - see my earlier post.
Interestingly I was using a Wifi hotspot at Wellington Airport on Sunday morning and had no problem accessing the sites in question but when I returned still not accessible via Woosh - it is definitely a problem with Woosh or their upstream providers and not with the sites I cannot access or their DNS entries etc...
Anyway lets await Woosh's explanation - in the last conversation I had with them the CS Rep basically said that they had contacted Asianet and had not had a reply - I asked them about the 24/7 Helpdesk Asianet refer to on their website and suggested maybe Woosh should phone them - the CS Rep said nothing more could be done!

I have just finished the conference call with Woosh about this specific thread. They are aware of this ongoing discussion and explained that the Orbit Flat Rate plan was offered from October 2006 through May 2007 and attracted a large number of users.

Of those, there are about 1000 users now on this plan - and some of those are using 300, 500 GB or more every month, which is far more than would be expected from a "normal" user.

To try and reduce the impact of these heavy users have on everyone's experience Woosh moved the Orbit Flat Rate plan to its own pool, so in other words, there's a limited amount of traffic allowed, of which users can use all they want - but with the consequential impact on everyone else's speed on the plan.

To mitigate this Woosh is working to identify the not so heavy users - those who use way less than the others and could be better in other current plans, and will be cotacting those to move them to a more suitable plan, where the limitation in speed is not going to be enforced.

So, yes a few users impacted on how the whole experience came to be.

I can't say I blame Woosh. Traffic and bandwidth are limited resources, and there's a cost providing those. The use of "unlimited" in a name would be wrong, but I am told there was a fair use policy in the agreement - which I can't verify myself of course, but users should be aware of.

So in short, if you are not a heavy user and your contract is up, expect some contact from Woosh sometime in the next week or so.

I am also told that Woosh is going to instruct all CSRs on this so they have the same information for you.

Thanks again Mauricio much appreciated again. I can now see their point and will see what they have to offer. I never used more than 30GB usually below 10 so likely wait for the new year to see what new plans come on.  Now we know where we stand thanks again. Cheers

Cheers Mauricio - you are a legend. I would hire you!

And Woosh.... YOU'RE FIRED! I've just completed an XNET application and will post a new thread here shortly to let others know how it goes if you are worried about switching and their comparison speed/packages. Woosh - you handled a bad situation very poorly. I voted with my feet after the Go Large fiasco with Telecom - you looked after me for 12 months, but will be remembered for this cock up.

BYE!

thanks Mauricio,

nothing new... just more reliable information from woosh...

in the end, users who trully would like to use unlimited internet would be worse off :(

don't see reason to purchase unlimited plan and dl just 10-20-30gb

Woosh should not introduce such a plan in the first place... or should do it ihug way :(

and what does actually mean "normal/standard" user... who they monitor? averaga of all users would be better rather then mean...

"fair use policy" - was applied only to 5pm-12am time when they stated no more then 700mb to dl or limit the speed til 12am.

nothing more...

P.S. Does anyone have actual contract? could upload somewhere... I could not find mine to varify all things. Would appriciate that much.

Cheers.

 to Mauricio  -  thankyou again.
wonder if more to story,  and also relating to wireless services.

to Knumbnuts -  your last letter matches my sentiments re Woosh.  Best of luck at Xnet.
I might be following your footsteps.   :)

   regards,

yes thanks,
they haven't explained my wireless problem (access to some international sites) and despite having my phone number and email address haven't contacted me again either.
while I have been  very happy with their service and love the portability I must say that I too am considering other options.

I only have 2 weeks 2 go with woosh and with this extreme lack of speed do I stay or do I go

reason being eventuallly everyone will get F'd off with these slow speed that they may move if they move and there is only 150 ~ 200 ppl on this plan would that not then make thing better or will they still cap everyone till they move ?

points being raised here 700Mb cap 5pm till midnight means just that I admitt I have left bit torrent running at this time and seen the drop in speed about 9pm no complaints there it is in the contract but constant speeds now @ or below dial up I think is a breach of contract just the same if I terminated the contract before 12 months

I know for sure the latter would have me paying a $99 termination fee but as I have had cr**py speed for 3 weeks nearly could I now claim that back of woosh I DONT THINK SO

Come on fair play in both directions would be considered a good business practice not just one way in taking my money every way you can and then saying ' I dont care just keep giving me your money '

Ok, I'm not on a flat rate plan and seem to have the same experience as those that are on a flat rate plan.

and then the next $49.95 is due on the 1st Nov. How would it be if we gave a percentage of our payment equivalent to the percentage of "unlimited" we are recieving ? I'm sure we would soon get Baycorp on our doorstep

wonder if you got assigned to the "Unlimited"  pool by error.

also  feel  there is a lot of issues and agenda's  to reveled to  Mauricio.
