Hey guys, I've had a look at the chorus website, and they have a PDF on there called "UFB2+" coverage map. It has my general area listed under Acacia Bay, Taupo but it doesn't go in to any detail, I've then gone to the National Broadband Map (see below image) and it has more detail showing my area will have fibre estimated by end of 2022?
Can someone who has more access to the new coverage check this is the case?
Happy to PM my specific address if that will help narrow down.

i dont believe they have finalised the areas yet, just a rough indication

How will this work in terms of ISP selection? While it may be great for a small town to officially have UFB, will supplier ISP's have to separately provision that town? It may not be worth it.

I believe that each of the small towns has a "parent town" that the service is extended from. To use a local example, Ohope, Edgecumbe, etc would get the same ISP selection as Whakatane.

I think I saw a list/spreadsheet somewhere of the relationships between towns, but I'm too lazy to find it now

Chorus have broken theirs up into 33 Coverage Areas for the whole country.

Chorus then released NGA Tail Extension which means for a service provider to offer Chorus UFB to the whole country you need 5 handovers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

There are then the other LFCs, each are taking new areas at existing handovers

Northpower for Whangarei / Lower Northland

UFF for Hamilton / Waikato

UFF for Tauranga / Bay of Plenty

UFF for New Plymouth and Taranaki

UFF for Whanganui

Enable for Christchurch.

UFF does not offer tail extension between locations.

Generally this should mean most middle to large size ISPs can do the whole country, smaller ones may focus on key areas, however there are so many providers offering wholesale now it is easy to do the whole country.

It's in the UFB2 contracts that the new areas have to use an existing UFB1 handover. So there won't be any additional work ISPs need to do. If an ISP can serve the closest big town, they will be able to serve the small towns nearby.

I've seen this mentioned a few times. The majority of BOP is under Chorus, not UFF. There's a map here. Likewise there's a lot of Chorus in Waikato too.

What would they change? The programme has already been announced, they would be foolish to backtrack on anything now.
