Yip, that's right... though it does depend on how you report it.

If you jump in your car, after a few beers with us, and do a good 55km/h on the way, yip just 5 km over the limit, then you'll get some great attention from a friendly Police officer.

You'll also get a nice bill that will make your churned phone service account look a bit silly.

Oh, and if you've had enough beers then a personal invitation to meet a nice Judge and some other friendly folk.

The thing about speeding is it pays for their nice flash patrol cars, where as changing providers doesn't do much other than confuse ;)

No, I meant to say 'Telecom'.

Perhaps you missed the sarcastic, over the top, arrogant 'sense of entitlement' that was the under current.

In reality, I think this is a business issue and you should always pay for services with a credit card so you can do a charge back and old people really do need to have support when buying telecommunications services.

It's really not a police issue as they don't understand the dynamics, don't know what to do about the problems and clearly aren't interested in much other than chasing fast cars and locking up people who smoke pot.

If someone were to imply that the police pay more attention to drunk drivers than something like slamming as a means of revenue gathering, then I would have to imply that said person was a ******** deluded.

Back on topic however. Heard from a couple of people recently that were on the receiving end of these calls but I think after being bombarded with calls from the 'Ministry of Computers' that a lot of less than tech savvy people are starting to wise up to these scams.

I remember getting a cold call a couple of years ago - can't remember which company it was. They too were very pushy. Even when I stated that I worked for a phone company and got a generous discount as part of my salary, they still tried to convince me that they could save me money!

I was like "Dude, if you can do cheaper than free then I am listening". And with that he was gone.

Agree - it's a commercial matter. In Australia, as I documented in my earlier post above, this was addressed in the past by Telstra suing the slammers for "passing off". Another earlier post from a NZ Telecom employee suggests Telecom are still prepared to do the same (in Oz, Telstra appears to have departed the field, for whatever reason).

My client just got another phone call this time from Spirit Telco.
They gave him a web address - www.spirittelco.co.nz

I ran that domain and also www.spiritnetworks.co.nz via domain tools and they are different.
I rang both companies. The Networks company is a limited liability company and the lady who answered had a NZ accent. I rang the number in domain tools.

Spirit Telco is not a limited company and I was number 10 in the queue. I didn't wait to speak to them

Indians operating right out of our country claiming to be telecom wholesalers?
I wonder if it was conicidence that the person who phoned last week was claiming to be from telecom and now we get a phone call from someone from Spirittelco saying they are a wholesaler from telecom?

Spirit Networks appears to be legit but not this spirit telco.

WARNING ADVICE: Just had a marketing call from NXT Telecom Limited trading as Spirit Telco wanting my telephone business - offering substantial discounts. They knew all my phone account details. Apparently offering a service over the Chorus Network....as do Telecom. When asked where they were based they said Rosedale Road which happens to be just down the road from my office. They refused to tell me their street number. I am smelling a rat already. On checking further they have one Director, a Sanjay BHAYANI, registered to 45 Earlwood Drive, Wheelers Hill, Victoria, 3150 , Australia, 2 share holders at 1-7-58 Main Road, Gandhi Chowk, Yadguri India. Their company documents have been filed by a accountancy company here in Auckland...and their address in Rosedale Road is nothing more than a Post Office Box. Now they may have a legitimate service but when any thing goes belly up there is no one you can go and visit. And, like I experienced, when you start asking questions they wish you a nice day and simply hang up. Their web site was registered in June 2012. So my take on these guys is they have an Indian call centre set up, built a NZ focused web site, cold call from India to NZ small business, profits returned to the Indian Shareholders whilst the Director Sanjay Bhayani lives in a one bedroom apartment on the south side of Melbourne. So all in all, whilst they are not doing anything illegal this is not a NZ company in the true sense of the world and they certainly do not appear to own any notable telephone exchange equipment in NZ. They may be trying to pass off as a wholesaler selling Chorus Network infrastructure, however that may simply be a play on words as all companies are using the NZ telco infrastructure that Chorus own.

My suggestion. Stay clear of them.

The following details are all from the NZ Companies Office online database and free for anyone to search.
If you go to Googlemaps and enter -37.910327,145.177698 this is the registered home address of the sole Director Sanjay BHAYANI. Googlemaps does not recognise the Shareholders address.

Sanjay BHAYANI is connected to an infamous but apparently very profitable group in Australia. If you search in this thread for a post from me with two replies about three months back, you'll see a lot more detail on the complex ownership structure of this group of at least 30 companies in Australia and New Zealand. As an aside, it's so much easier and cheaper to view company records in NZ than in Oz, which I think gives you better protection.

Not sure if this still deserves to sit in the Telecom thread... These guys are complete scammers and a great thread that details their shady past which everyone would do well to stear clear of. Would be happier if they weren't in the Telecom thread. Perhaps New Zealand Connections ?

Telecom should really do something to shutdown dodgy scammers trying to get New Zealand consumers into bad deals.

So as I have said before. I would be happy if everyone was with Telecom (as our service and broadband speeds are excellent, a fair price for the service and I'm around here to help if things ever go wrong) but if someone is compelled to go to another provider for whatever reason please ensure they are a member of the Telecommunication Dispute Resolution service.

Since that way you have an independent service you can go to if things go wrong who will mediate the whole issue until final resolution.

This sort of thing reflects very poorly on the Telco industry so it benefits no one IMHO.

Spirit Telco is still going in 2016, though complaints of of cold call marketing have died off. Spirit Telecom is usually described as a subsidiary of NXT Telecom.

The Spirit Telco domain is owned by M8 Telecom Pty Ltd. This firm changed its sole Director last year to Heena Ramkishan SHARMA of Chadstone, Victoria, 3148, Australia but is still part owned by the Rathi family, the owners of the ex-Time Telecom group in Australia.
