Still not that simple, there is still back haul costs, etc to take into account; Dark Fibre from there back to Vodafone's Edge/POP in Christchurch or wherever it goes would still cost a fair bit of money.
Unbundling in Urban areas is a lot more cost effective because of the amount of available glass going into the exchanges there.

Do you even LLU brah...

But seriously, no company is going to invest $x in fixed line internet infrastructure in this town if the cost/benefit doesn't stack up, hence the government subsidising the RBI

Sounds like RBI wireless is the best this town is going to get anytime soon.

It would be nice for every single locality to have access to ADSL2, VDSL and/or fibre, but sadly it comes down to cost - although I would think Kirwee would be well in line ahead of Outram for any potential upgrades. Just my 2c.

It is odd that Kirwee never got an ADSL2/VDSL upgrade back in the Telecom days, there are plenty of other towns that did even many smaller than said Kirwee. Gets odder the more people speak up about these issues. Could Kirwee simply be Chorus now implementing their throughput constraints as they intimated they will as part of the New UBA service offerings?

Sorry mate your completly inaccurate with that statement about streaming 1080p. Simply put I just tried at 7:44pm while my daughter is at St John and nope I couldn't stream 1080p from You-tube at least, netflix isn't available here in New Zealand and my lightbox trial ended and I won't be subscribing cause while i tried to watch shows I couldn't reliably to spend the money. You're more than welcom to come here and investigate my network and see First Hand what happens during evening congested peak time.

Bang on. I just streamed a 30second you tube video and it stopped to buffer 3 times. No way to watch any streaming media during peak times. Fine at 4 am but no way at 7.30. All the kids in bed, so just us watching a 30 second you tube.

I can't recall (altho I'm sure it was mentioned earlier in the thread) but you have both taken your concerns to the Commerce Commission, right? They set the regulated speed for your connection, and (so far) it is working above the legislated
minimum.

I was not cheating here at all - this is a stream, managed to watch the whole video without buffering past the initial.

This is on a connection very rural out in the middle of nowhere, it suffers from severe congestion far worse than you guys however I've got VoIP running over it as well as Netflix - it works 99% of the time.

I would like this connection to be upgraded - yes, but I am actually one of you, my parents are on an ASAM, yes it is slow compared to my 100mbit UFB at home but it works and so does yours. You can pay for faster internet but I feel this whole thread is complaining until somebody foots the bill to upgrade you, I can get 20/20mbit Wireless as well as Vodafone RBI out here and it'll actually work well for my parents usage but they don't need it, that is the difference.

What I am trying to say is - plenty of people out there on ASAM's who are thankful for what they've got and there are others who really do need it, they're the ones who need to get broadband first before us with broadband that works who are just "wanting" faster speed without "needing" it and this is what really rarks me up. There are many on the West Coast on Satellite still who got missed by RBI in this round for example.

Your areas are not seen as suffering from congestion and to be honest I think the congestion might be due to your ISP since ATM is a lot different than Ethernet based technologies. I pay $99 per month for 100GiB and found Unleash (now Solarix) to be by-far the best performing ISP out here (6.6mbit average), I've been on Spark (2.7mbit average) and Snap (3.2mbit average) and this is the reason why I am still giving them money, because they work well for my parents needs.

My speed test results are only 10% of yours. I also run VOIP over it so our setup is similar.

With only 10% of your speed could you stream videos? My ping response is typically between 200 and 400ms.

My sync rates are about 6400kbps but my actual speed is less than 10% of this. I think we fall into the category of needing an upgrade. We are not in the middle of nowhere. Just 25 mins from Christchurch.

Here is the thing - you've got at-least 3 wireless providers willing to provide you with faster speeds however you're refusing to pay the setup costs? Your area is smaller than the area the cabinet on my parents connection provides and has less users.

You've had solutions pointed out to you that'll actually work for you.

Plenty of other towns bigger than you still on Conklins experiencing 200kbit/s type speeds and yet they are not complaining. You're getting the speeds you've signed up for (aka: best effort) and to be honest I really do think that since you've got other options Chorus should really be focusing on towns with no connectivity but Satellite.

Haast for example doesn't have mobile coverage or broadband, just dialup or satellite but they do have an exchange. I am sure they'll be grateful for even a Conklin.

25 minutes could be 25KM which is over a million dollars of Fibre.
Maybe your town pay for the upgrade or move to the RBI service.
You are sh1t out of luck here buddy. Whining to us (Most IT or Network professionals) about acceptable performance wont achieve anything. You already been to the comm comm and others so if you hear anything from them good. if not bite the bullet. If broadband matters get a new house.

You are expecting a something that probably wont be done. Chorus said if they get the funding they will do Kirwee but it isnt confirmed.

I bet your next excuse will be earthquake related given you from Christchurch and all.

Why do you feel you fall into that category? What puts you ahead of (for example) the likes of Haast, which can't even get any landline broadband? I would wager the actual populations of Kirwee and Haast are quite similar - Kirwee may have a larger surrounding population, but I have a feeling that there would be much difference in numbers between you and Haast.
