kiwitrc: obnoxious much? People are entitled to listen to whomever they like, there isn't really a place for that type of response in this thread.

Honestly, it drives me nuts when people call other peoples names over music choices.

I settle for a quiet snigger when I think they're not looking.

OK I take it back, those Rhianna listening people who got caught downloading after all the publicity about what would happen are obviously the cream of intellectual society and were framed.

But seriously, the happy face at the end of the post that started this little diversion indicates it was a joke.

Lighten up, you have a World Cup to celebrate :)

My fault it would seem, I didn't see the smiley face and it being a pet peeve of mine, (Mostly because I have quite electic taste) I possibly overreacted. I apologize.

Want to take that to another thread? its gone off topic for long enough.

It appears that the notices are from one album and what more from one ISP, will this be the start of further notices for different content and isp's? Im not so sure, seems to me that just one copyright holder has all there ducks lined up..

They seem to holding off from issuing notices according to this:  http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/5883251/Studios-in-skynet-copyright-talks

The centralised processing facility concept seems like the big change the holders want to introduce?

Interesting is that they have come from RIANZ, a NZ based organisation, rather than a overseas based studio as it would need to be for a video infringement

Interestingly, the UK have been taking down NZB index sites after a landmark court case which saw British Telecom (ISP) forced to use their "web filter" to block the DNS of the site and any site appearing to provide links to the service.  This is the same "web filter" that was only going to be used to prevent Kiddie stuff from being accessed - and long may that continue.

To the best of my knowledge we don't have the filters in place in NZ, but Australia do - how long before their filters will also be used to block on commercial grounds - I can see Apple now filing for a block because an offshore electronics company is still selling Galaxy tabs to AU residents.  Keep the filters in place to stop the filth from getting through but only for that.

The problem with a centralised notice infringement service is the privacy that surrounds which account holder was using an IP address at the time of the alleged infringement.  ISPs probably would not provide that data without a court order which means the team would still have to go through the ISP and pay the appropriate fees.  What this will do however is centrally store an IP address - meaning they can concentrate on those that have allegedly infringed across multiple rights holders already.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

I think this is due to the requirement that the complainant must have a New Zealand address for service in order to file a complaint with an ISP. Makes sense for RIANZ to be the first to have their complaints accepted as they already have this in place.
