How many Aussies would love just having the 68 down and 91 up!

Am curious to know what plan you were on? Also is the latency better to sydney/LA much better??

Cheers... :)

Edit: D'oh, you wanted LA. My bad.

LA (2degrees)

Sydney (Telstra server, first run)

Second run

San Fran (Unwired, first run)

Second run

So basically - you get 2Gbit to a speedtest server within NZ and then pretty average speeds anywhere else. I am able to beat almost all of your Speedtests above and yet I am on Gigabit.

For example, your unwired Speedtest result - ignore the upload, my server is currently running a Crashplan backup:

I wonder if you were in Invercargill if you would be getting the same speeds to a speedtest server in Auckland.

Can't change the speed of light and thus the TCP RTT.

Yes you can... It's just that you can't speed it up!

Speedtest doesn't seem to have any servers in Invercargill, here's one to Dunedin (2degrees)

and CHCH (also 2degrees)

Thanx for the benchmarks Digmarx, Chorus marketing indicated better speed and latency (I guess it depends to what you are comparing it to), it was latency i'm mainly concerned with and for me i see little to no difference. The plan speed you're on is what i was looking at but i think for now i'll sit on the fence till prices drop/fall/plummet.

@BarTender You're in Invercargill too?

@Mush1364 regarding latency - Hyperfibre can't change physics / the speed of light. You're not going to see any difference here.

No, I have just seen latency issues where folks in Auckland vs folks the further south you go get progressively slower speed tests the further south they go as the traffic always has to go to Auckland before the traffic goes overseas. Invercargill to Auckland (1600KM) following SH1 which is a similar path to the fibre from memory ~30ms depending on the path taken and that is a similar ping time Auckland to Sydney (2200KM).

And if you wanted a laugh: https://wondernetwork.com/pings/Auckland

If you scroll down to Wellington: Wellington - 494km - 1.20ms - 494.00% 0.69ms 2.29ms 0.47ms..

So it's 494% the speed of light... so you really can change it.
