I'm travelling today. But logged job with comcom and they have asked for more information. I am compiling this at the moment. It takes time.

With regard to Enable, they have said they can't comment on what their future plans are.

I'll update when I get response form comcom.

Chris.

darkasdes2: I know nothing will probably come of my suggestion, but has any of the residents approached Enable Networks in Christchurch to see if they would consider expanding their network.

I have had dealings with Enable in regards to the fibre roll out, our street was on the plan to get it by july this year, they have since said there is no current roll out plan for our area, and everyone else around us is getting it except out street in the middle we will be surrounded by fibre just not our street. Anyway I personally wouldn't waste your time, any communication with them about missing our street has been generic script stuff. Enable website and rollout information is so vague and useless, other LFC's give areas and estimated years for roll out, Enable you are either in this years plan or not, and even if you are in the planned roll out that doesn't mean jack anyway. I would assume they will not want to take anything else on until such time as they have fulfilled their current obligations, and by that time lots may have changed. A valid suggestion if this was any other LFC

Finally. Let us know the outcome.
BTW...writing on Chorus's Facebook page won't do anything.

I have a feeling the OP is not coming back here, however it appears he's still promoting the "write to Amy Adams" line (sigh).

As seen on the Kirwee FB page:

Meanwhile, I wonder what the Commerce Commission said to him...or how far that got?

If you are experiencing Throughput issues (speed much less than your connection speeds), you are probably Rural and either fed from a Conklin (with E1 Backhaul - up to 7.8Mbit/s) or ASAM with E1 (or ATM Fibre Backhaul with 10's of Mbit/s Backhaul).  However ATM Backhaul can also be sub-tended off other ASAM's, which limits their capacity.

The minimum regulated Throughput legislated by the Commerce Commission from 2006 is 32kbit/s over a 15min period (0.03 Mbps download on your Speed-test) and DSLAM's do not allow less than this when full.  Most users are far above that, but that doesn't meet today's Internet needs for Video etc in some peoples view, but worth remembering you are connected to a BASIC UBA connection.

The National Government agreed to extend the Rural industry subsidy until 2019, which should cover your area.  In the end these Legacy Cabinets need to be upgraded in the next several years, they were not meant to last forever.

For Throughput issues you (and anyone else complaining in your community) should call your Retail Service Provider (RSP) so they can log a case with Chorus (after the normal troubleshooting to ensure it is not something else) for a "Slow Throughput" case to Chorus Assure (Faults).  These will come back as to whether there is an upgrade currently planned or not.  But they are all logged and will dictate the priority of future investment when it becomes available.

Thank you. You are the first person to respond with something useful (which was what my opening post was actually hoping to achieve.)

I have had confirmation from someone at Chorus that Kirwee is to be included in RBI3 when National get around to funding it later this year. Your comments help in the understanding of what we have - which is poor by modern standards in NZ.

Once again thank you for your response.

Have you yet heard back from the MBIE or Commerce Commission?

You may think it's poor but the reality is it far, far, far exceeds the minimum requirements set out for regulated Broadband as set in place by MBIE and the Commerce Commission.

Commerce Commission refused the case, saying it was not covered by anything they are responsible for. MBIE did not respond at all.

I understand it meets any minimum regulation, however that standard is out of date which is why I am working on Amy Adams and others for this to be changed or at the very least get Kirwee to top of any list for the next round of RBI.

Yip the 32kbps is well out of date - it's a standard suitable for the internet of 2004, not 2014.

The problem is the standard is set in place by the Commerce Commission with input from MBIE. The response you've got really shows what an inept organisation they are.

2006? I would say 1996.

2004, The year you were born David.

Goes to show the CommComm are inept. But at the end of the day, its not bad. There are 100 other communities at worse than Kirwee.

I've been in Kirwee since 1992 and used dialup then. At times the 'broadband' speed is not much better now than it was then. I write software for a living so I find that I have to drive back to CH if I need to work in the evening.
Just registering my frustration with the 'broadband' speed in Kirwee.

Um, okay. Might be better registering that frustration with your ISP.
