hio77: worth the hope the chorus looks into vdsl vectoring?

More likely they're putting all their future efforts into fibre I'd say...

it just seems like an utter waste..  could easily get far more upstream or downstream with changes to limits or ranges...

Yes, as I said we could easily get 70/70 with the current band setup I think. Or 100/50 with some careful band selection.

might be asking a bit much of vdsl, or atlest attention will shine through if things were set that high.. worth the hope the chorus looks into vdsl vectoring?

maybe once telecom start selling vdsl there might be more of a push to improve profiles and all..

I can't see them investing in copper any further tbh. Perhaps if the government in australia changes, their NBN might drop to a FTTN setup with the potential for newer impreovements on VDSL technologies like this.

From a quick skim, it appears that it would require new hardware?

yep, ild say this would be the case.. we can hope though right? :/ atlest more profile tweaks would be nice, and transparency on the profiles themselves wouldnt be too bad although i bet it get more complicated than sync rates error rates and attention...

one can only hope, but wait, wouldnt that mean we wouldnt have a almost 100 page thread doing guess work and comparing!

Don't even have to go that far. There's a 30a profile that is supposed to be capable of 200 Mbit/s downstream. 17a is theoretically capable of 100 Mbit/s. And normally I'd be wary of "theoretical" limits, but 8b is only supposed be capable of 50 Mbit/s and we've been able to push it past that. Should be able to get close to the same upload speeds too.

so thats a prettmuch full DS/US graph then.. the gaps are crazy!

That's why I think it's capable of so much more. Conservatively I estimate I'm only using about 15% of the available upstream bandwidth.

hio77:
SamF: Maybe it would create too much crosstalk?

isnt this also why 17a isnt widely used at distance?

I'm not sure. It may just be because 17a attenuates faster than 8b. 17a is a lower power profile than 8b so I think theoretically two lines should have less crosstalk on 17a.

I accidentally caused a resync yesterday, so I thought I would try tweak SNR while I'm at it. Doesn't look like you can do it with the Zyxel as whatever figure you change SNR to nothing happens and SNRM remains at 12dB

Anyway, I regret ever touching it as I had more errors over night than I did in the 5 days since I got vdsl. This is after I reset the Zyxel to default in case my failed SNR tweaking could cause issues

Total time = 13 hours 10 min 51 sec
FEC: 0 0
CRC: 1423 0
ES: 62 3
SES: 5 0
UAS: 464 464
LOS: 4 0
LOF: 5 0

Figured it out, it was the act of pulling the phone cable out in order to disconnect the link this morning

You get a rush of CRC, ES, SES, LOS, LOF errors - which is obvious now. I should have followed the correct method of powering off the device then powering it on with the cable plugged in

So ignore the above

Well this was a bit odd. After dropping to DLM2 on the 24th I reset my Target SNRM to 12 db and everything looked good with errors very low, around 0.1. Then last night I noticed they were way up (like 2800 in 1 hour) but decided to leave it and see what happened. When I look at it now, well see below. I haven't touched it at all; wonder what might have caused this:

Bugger, it seems to have started again today at 5pm... Now I'm a bit worried.

I'll see your errors and raise you mine

I have a feeling my dehumidifiers could be causing the interference as having those run throughout the day is the only thing which has changed recently.

Argh! The errors on my line got even worse overnight last night, and it looks like it bumped me to DLM4 this morning. I've been racking my brain but can't think of anything that's changed in our house that might cause this... very annoying though:

rain? otherwise its a mystery indeed.. every time iv dropped from DLM-1 its pushed me back to DLM-4 over two resyncs, so that could be the case for you, but none the less, that many errors on DLM-2 is rather odd..

I did wonder about rain but it's been running for months with no issues (my VDSL anniversary is coming up next month I think, lol) so it's strange that it would just start like that.

it is strange forsure..  my errors are higher than usual too.. seems a few peoples error rates have increased recently..

i question if chorus working in the area could be making my errors pop up however.. they appear to be installing another cabinet about 10~20M up the road from the existing cabinet, on the other side of the road.. doesnt quite make sense to me really..

oh, and im talking little busts of 2~4 errors an hour, so not really anything concerning ;)

anyone else considering bonding two vdsl2 connections together if the price drops?
