We're sorry for the short website outage today. No core services are effected and we have a team on top of it as we speak.

Apologies about the inconvenience this might have caused.

2 things stand out for me.

1) they don't seem to offer VDSL2 on their website
2) their prices for broadband seem pretty expensive compared to current offers from Telecom, Orcon, Slingshot etc etc

You can get VDSL2 with them but you have to ask for it and they will give you a price.

Telecom do not offer VDSL2 at all home or business and are not planning to in the near future, in fact when I rang them the girl did not know what VDSL2 was.....strange stuff from Telecom.

Snap seems to be the best option for VDSL at the moment.

very strange, I just had a conversation with two different people at telecom, from new and moves, then the broadband team, who both told me vdsl2 was the same price, and was available as long as it was possible from the address receiving the broadband connection. I was quite clear as to the distinction between vdsl2 and adsl2, and they were clear they were aware there was a difference.

This is distinct from conversations i'd had a month or two back, where i was told it wasn't available from telecom, but that they could check the address to tell me if it could theoretically get vdsl2 from another provider.

anyone have any further thoughts?

That's unlikely as the port prices for VDSL is over twice that of ADSL. I suspect they mistook ADSL2 for VDSL2.

Basically the wholesale price ISP's pay to Chorus for use of the line and dsl equipment etc.

Telecom are not offering a residential VDSL2 service yet.

imo for residential VDSL2 talk to Snap, for professional or business VDSL2 talk to Maxnet or Unleash.

As far as I was told by our Telecom business account manager, they do not  do VDSL2
residential or business and do not plan to for a long time.
Talk about the fastest way to to get rid of your business customers!
We have been forced to go to another provider (HD) I guess it all ends up in the same pocket anyway.

are you referring to the monthly or one off price?

Is it possible the monthly fee is the same, but the install costs more? or vice versa? or both? Aside from maybe specifying a filter installed, it seems to me the installation would be identical?

unfortunately if the vdsl pricing doesn't start to align with adsl2 - and fibre, it's going to be very under utilised imo.

i don't think telecom/chorus want to utilise it that much.  what i'm curious about is if anyone is doing vdsl on local-loop-unbundling, as that may be able to be more affordable.

it's an unregulated premium product, so the commerce commission don't control the price.

vdsl will be available in some areas that ufb currently has no 10 year plan  for, and will be available sooner than a lot of ufb connections.

it's not price-competitive with dsl.  but neither will fibre be, when you don't want to go naked

but only for businesses and only in a "we'll provision you over what we feel like" kind of way.

http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/business/internet/biznet.cfm

and $2.95 for a gig of  volume...
