A lot of the other topics about ISP recommendations are about VDSL2/Naked connections, but I can't take advantage of them because I need a homeline.

So can somebody recommend me an ISP with relatively consistent ADSL2 speeds? I don't want downloads (from usually fast/max speed sites) dropping under 100~200kbs during 'peak times'.

150GB-ish per month would probably be fine. The only two I can find right now are the big players in Telecom and Slingshot.

Telecom is $125 for 160GB, while Slingshot is $101 for unlimited. The problem is that I'm afraid Slingshot will drop to low speeds during 'peak times'.

Someone suggested the Orcon Genius 200GB/month for $99 and it has a VOIP phone with different plans. I would say that's a good deal.

Probably because you'll be held on a contract. You can also try Snap, phone and 155GB of data for $100/month I think. https://myaccount.snap.net.nz/signup/home/broadband/step1

Snap would be another good option: $115 for 255GB or $145 for 555GB.

Snap's estimated sync rates for me are:
Downstream (ADSL2) 6.4 - 7.6 Mb/s
Upstream (ADSL2) 0.7 - 0.8 Mb/s

That's a little faster than what I have now (around 500kbs), but a user in another topic posted speeds of 18Mbps:

Average Sync 18Mbps down 1.2Mbps up, Annex M does work @ 2Mbps up but the higher down speed is preferable to me, I do however enable Annex M and reset if I need to do a big upload.

Primarily because the phone is VOIP rather than POTS.

Edit: You can port your local phone number onto the Orcon VoIP service

I've got a few phones around the house, but having them connected to the modem will be inconvenient, and it also makes having more than one phone kind of redundant if they're all just going to be right next to each other haha.

Do Slingshot and Telecom operate at ADSL2+ speeds? I can't seem to find it on their website.
It looks like Snap is only ADSL2 too.

go with Snap , there fastest time to download is peak time and you will connect with what you exchange or cabinet provides, ADSL or ADSL 2. Ask Snap they will tell you.

it's not all that cheap.
for comparison:

Telecom do 120GB with landline for $105
Slingshot do 100GB with landline for $91 or unlimited for $101
Vodafone do 160GB for $120

and all of those are with real PSTN voice lines, not VOIP

If you go VoIP an ATA could be wired back in to your phone jacks and you can carry on using exactly the same phones you have now. There is really no benefit to having a landline now IMO.

If you go with WorldXChange there is no knowledge required. All you need is an installer to wire the ATA back in to your phone jacks. if you are in Auckland area Coffeebaron can help you out.

Simple answer:
Snap have cheap plans for both naked and clothed DSL lines.

If you value performance over size of data cap I would go with Telecom right now, my second choice would be Snap probably.

Truenet release some performance status on ISP's each month (note: mostly domestic performance).
