Hey,

Before I get started.. if there is a better area to post this in please advise.

I have a company/customer that is in the wops and is 26k north of Oamaru (new dairy factory) We are the main contractors in charge of anything ICT, with Automation the main focus but are over-seeing the whole shabang (this will be the third dairy factory we have commissioned from go to wo but have been involved with umpteen other factories and sites)

We had the main 100 pair Chorus fibres pulled in from state highway one into a cabinet just out from the front of the factory. with that, there is a pair for high speed fibre internet connection (as well as fibres pulled in for Telecom products/services)

I know the cost of uncontended and unlimited fibre connections available for corporate connections i.e. circa 40k a year for 10mb direct fibre/VLAN to global gateway. I know this from other sites we look after.

UFB is not ready in the area in question. 4G may well be by mid next year. Currently using RBI 5mb connection for contractor portacoms.

My question is, who is another provider that does fibre corporate connections? surely 40K a year is a nasty joke? there has to be something else??
In my mind we have the fibre in the box outside the factory right… the other end is laid up at a/the Oamaru exchange (circa 26kms away), so surely with media converters or WHY we could simply pick a provider and plug into their equipment at the exchange (more or less) and a media converter at the factory end and you are done...

Any thoughts/suggestions on a provider that is bound to have the kit to accommodate this request at modern prices?

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I suspect Chorus owns the fibre.

So they can charge their standard HSNS rate for using the fibre uncongested connection rather than a GPON best efforts service which are totally different products offered at different rates from Chorus.

If you are interested I can put you in touch with a business manager to see what can be done.

Yes Chorus owns the fibre, we paid them to shift the 100 pair into the new cabinet

what I am trying to do here is find another Provider (other than Telecom) to find a cheaper internet package.

Just got off the phone to Orcon and they can do the same/similar 10MB circuit for circa 20K (not 40K like Telecom)
