I have the nice people from CSR/Visionstream/Chorus rolling out ducting in our street and surrounding area at the moment. Most of the ducting seems to be in place and they're starting to fill in the holes, connect the junction boxes, cabinet etc.

I just checked the chorus map and our cabinet area has gone from March 2014 to April 2014. Being that in another couple of weeks all the ducting will be in, why does it take 3 months for it to be available to consumers? I would think that the ducting would take the longest time.

Jointing, If it's anything like some other LFC's the Jointing is the longest part as it requires tools and skills the (cheaper) ducting guys just dont have

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Yeah, they finished the ducting, refilled holes etc outside our place a few weeks ago, but Chorus site says May expected date lol. Oh well. It used to say March.

Once the ducts are in and tested, they need to feed the fibre through the ducts to the cabinet from the telephone exchange. There is the splicing as mentioned above and testing to do plus time for the quality control people to do their stuff. A lot of the testing is between the telephone exchange and thecabient so you don't see much of it happening when standing on the street and it takes a while.

Your street may be the first of the area, Also this is the Xmas period and Chorus is in Brown out very soon....
Xmas time always seems to delay any project that follows on into the new year.

At least Chorus is updating the map in your area; the data for Whakatane hasn't changed since early October despite work happening all over the place!

as above ... what you are seeing with the ducting going down the street is barely scratching the surface of what is actually required for the area to be available for install.

maybe 50% of the total work if that? depending on how you look at it.

I think it's best to assume any UFB install will take a year from the date it's requested. That way you may be pleasently surprised when it happens in only 3 or 6 months.

they have been digging for the last week down my street to lay fibre and this morning they managed to cut the phone cable to the street resulting in 4 hours of no internet or phone. The only good thing is that after fixing it my sync rate went up 2-3000 . does not bode well for rest of installation.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Ha, at least you have an indication of an install. The SAT map for me still says "UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed" even though some friends down the street( less than 500 meters away) have had the card in the letterbox and have had the ducting put in.
I must be on the wrong side of the local shops :-(

For what it's worth, the ducting was installed outside our house in December last year, and I wasn't able to connect until March...3-4 months seems pretty typical around here (Chorus area)

Argh, just re-checked the Chorus maps and Apr 2014 has slipped until June 2014. Ducting was finished in January, Chorus guys have run the fibre backhaul (AFAIK) and have been working on the cabinet for the last 4 weeks.

Who's the best to contact about this? My ISP? Visionstream? Chorus?

I would't complain too much if I were you - at least you have work going on and a target date in the foreseeable future. I'm like ubernoob: "UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed" with no sign of activity in my neighbourhood yet - and I live less than 10 minutes (walking) from the heart of Lower Hutt city, so not exactly a remote area.
