Hi all, was wondering if you guys can help me out in choosing a Broadband plan as I think currently I am paying too much.
Currently on Telecom Ultra VDSL 500GB paying $129.00 and $19.00 for mobile with Telecom which is sufficient for my usage. Total I pay is $148.00 per month  Excellent speeds and line rates as shown below, would like to keep them if I switch provider.  Don't really need a landline but would like to have a mobile plan bundled with Broadband if possible. Broadband usage is not more than 250GB max, can live with bit less.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

you could switch to our Naked VDSL service at Bigpipe

  • $99 per month.
  • no data cap.
  • no contract
  • no connection fee
  • you can use the same Telecom modem you already have.
  • You alreayd have a master filter, so you're all good there too.
Pretty sure every single other ISP that sells VDSL prices in a modem and master filter and therefore requires a 12 or 24 month contract.  Since you already have a modem and master filter, it seems like a waste.

Some others also include catches - like Vodafone's VDSL price which automatically goes up by $10 at the end of the 12 month contract.

With us, if you aren't happy you can leave anytime, which I think is pretty important.

You won't be able to 'bundle' your mobile, but it's still a better deal than the equivalent bundled deals anyway IMHO.

You other realistic alternative is to stick with Telecom, and switch to their naked plan which gives you a $30 discount off their pricing. (so your would be paying $99 for the broadband, BUT it requires a postpaid mobile, which means upping your mobile bill by about $20 to the $39 plan, although obviously that includes more mins and data)

you wont need to switch ISPs that way :D

Vodafone seems like a good choice but they are charging a connection fee, I already have everything needed for VDSL and don't want to go on a contract. Also, does anyone know if $39.00 On Account Mobile Plan would be eligible to get the $30.00 discount on broadband Charges,

Well, telecoms $99 pricing for 500GB is only applicable if you sign up for $39 and above mobile plan, now took of any discount. Vodafone gives $30 discount on Naked broadband plans if eligible mobile plan is bundled but doesn't specify which plans. If Telecom discounts by $30 as you said, then does that mean there 500GB Naked
Regular price is $129.00? I thought naked was slightly cheaper as no landline!!

No connection fees if you're switching from another provider - and the $39.00 On Account plan certainly does qualify for the discount. So does the $29.00 plan. :)

Thanks, what does the $29.00 plan come with, can't see on the website.  So, $109-$30 = $79.00 for 500GB Nakeb Ultra VDSL and $29.00 for the mobile plan is that correct? Total =$108.00
Would like to switch but current provider is charging a disconnection fee so better wait till contract runs out in July.

That's the one, $108 for the lot. The $29.00 plan currently has 150mins, 500MB, unlimited texts, & 4G, with no fixed term - hit one of the little black arrows on this page for more info.

You can also get a MySky discount or a year of Xbox Live Gold or PSN+ if that's your bag!

We've rejigged it a bit to make it simpler - the discount for having an on-account mobile is now $10.00 for all naked and clothed fixed line plans, but the naked plans have dropped in price as well, and we've added unlimited options.

You'd be looking at $75.00/month for 80GB of VDSL or $95.00/month for unlimited VDSL, minus the $10.00 discount for the on-account mobile on a minimum $29.00 plan - so $94.00/month all up for $29.00 plan + 80GB of VDSL or $114.00/month $29.00 plan + unlimited VDSL.

The $29.00 plan now has 200mins, unlimited texts, and 500MB of data.

Thanks for replying. So how do I do it. Just found out my current contract expires 22 July I thought it was 22 June. Vodafone stores and call centre insist I have to pay connection and set up few etc which according to your earlier post isn't true. Can I contact tub closer to the day to arrange the move? In the meantime I will arrange the on account mobile phone plan as contract is only for Broadband.
