nitrotech: Hi Jesse,
Just interested in what sort of international capacity you think you'll need to start offering these Gigabit plans.
I would imagine that the retail cost of the gigabit plans would be significant based on the cost of international?
ripdog: Yeah, I'd love to get a cost estimate for an unlimited gigabit plan in NZ. Not "TELL ME YOUR FUTURE PRICES NOW", but just a rough estimate and cost breakdown for curiosity sake.
EDIT: Reading that newspaper article, did you just say that the service will retail for $129?!

Our current goal is to start 1Gbps pricing from the $129 price point.
ripdog: I can't imagine why someone would get a capped 1gbps plan...
Thinking about it, I've never heard of a capped 1gbps plan anywhere in the world. Does anyone know of one?
Still seeing reasonable-priced 1gbps plans in the pipeline is very exciting! Go NZ internet!

Full Flavor is marketing to the stupid people. They will get a 1Gbps connection and then browse stuff and Facebook through wifi while claiming it's so much faster than the 100Mbps they had before.

I think you'd find our customer base are quite far from being described as "stupid people".
A huge chunk of our clientele are switched-on individuals running businesses from home and while they may not be regular Geekzoners, their knowledge and what they do online is a big step from ordinary.
I was involved in an install last night where the client had already organised a central area for his ONT, had cat6 cabled his place and was ready to patch his various devices around the home into the router.

myfullflavour: Unlikely we'll ever do caps but unlike some of the other unlimited players we do have a fair use policy.
In the case of a very heavy user (1000GB + / month) it's likely we'll only guarantee a certain level of performance up to particular point, before said heavy user has their traffic dropped back in priority (affecting the experience during peak times).
I can't commit to anything yet - all is very fluid as we work out the details.
