Hi all,

As you're likely aware Chorus launched their new UFB access speeds at the start of July.
We're looking at offering these new products through our HD and UnlimitedInternet brands but would like your feedback on what you would actually go for if given the option; obviously there's no point offering something that nobody wants.

The new access speeds being looked at are;
UFB 100/20 (2.5/2.5), UFB 100/50 (2.5/2.5), UFB 100/100 (2.5/2.5), UFB 200/20 (2.5/2.5), UFB 200/100 (2.5/2.5), UFB 200/200 (2.5/2.5) & UFB 1G/1G.

We've checked with Chorus and there isn't any options to upgrade the CIR component at present.

Feel free to let us know what your opinions of the different options are, to the competition; feel free to post up your opinion of the offerings also!

Thanks!

30/10 works fine for me. To get more than 30Mbps down you need a local server or many threads to a remote server. Even well seeded torrents don't always get to 30Mbps. I can see benefits in faster upload for businesses, and 100/10 or 100/20 for busy households who have multiple HD streams going at once.

It's nice to have options though.

I think that UFB 100/20 (2.5/2.5) or UFB 100/50 (2.5/2.5) would suit most people - only a minority would need higher upload speeds, and more than 100Mbps download speed is almost irrelevant/pointless for international connections.
I'm currently on VF cable 50/2, and the upload speed is too slow for my needs.

I am currently on a 100/50 plan, and would upgrade to 200/100, depending on cost difference. Actually, I'd go 1G/1G if the cost is acceptable, but I suspect it's not.

I would probably just go for 30/10.  I am currently on VDSL and getting about 50/12 on speed tests when using a wired connection, on wifi I get about 25/8.

Until I upgrade the wifi there isn't much point in paying for a faster connection.

When I pay the big bucks to sort my wifi then I'd probably go for 100/20, 100/50 or maybe 200/200.

The appeal of these faster plans is the faster upload as I use a cloud based backup service (although this works OK on VDSL today).

Currently on a 100/50 plan paid for via. work. I could honestly do with less, say 50/20. More would obviously be nice, but the cost-to-benefit would peak at 200/200 I think - if I were paying for it, that is.

I would get 200/200 most likely.

I'd happily 'kill' for 30/10 at this point TBH (!)

I am on 200/50 with Vodafone and would like more depending on how much international bandwidth Vodafone have purchased. I am looking down the road at 4K streaming etc. My ideal would be 1g/1g

The faster the better! It's true what everyone else is saying, that nobody needs more than 100/50 right now. But remember - Skype didn't appear while dial up was 'good enough'! We have to push speeds faster to make it practical for people to start offering services which are only possible through gigabit-tier connections. As geeks, that's our responsibility, IMO :)

I like the idea of 100/100, just nice having a symmetrical connection. Plus a way to specify which traffic should use the the CIR for downstream traffic (obviously can define the upstream through tags, but downstream is more difficult) (on business plans at least)
But if I was paying would probably just go for the 50 up unless there was pretty much no price difference.

200/100 and above, depending on price/value

All about the higher speeds, as long as we keep moving up and don't drop the upload back to 20 (that's silly I reckon), it all sounds gravy, but I'm especially keen for 200/50 and higher offerings. Ideally want to keep the upload at 20%-ish, give or take.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

I wish to interconnect properties, so fast and symmetric is important to me. The problem is I don't wish to pay a $30 per month premium for faster upload speeds which are only used occasionally, and given international data tends to be below 30Mbs^-1 most of the time, 200/200 isn't really much use most of the time, and should only be marginally more expensive than 30/10.

Right now, based on pricing (and pending others releasing their new pricing), I'd go for 200/20 at $99 (Bigpipe), but not 200/200 at $129, even though there are times when the additional speed would come in handy.

200/200 is a good speed, but I could probably find use for 1gbps/1gbps. I currently pay an extra $60/mo for a Dutch VPS with that speed, so it'd be nice to be able to put that money toward hardware I own and not have to contend with 4 other users for the bandwidth.

I'd be happy right now with anything better than my 30/10 VDSL2 but no I have to wait probably another two or more years for chorus to lay fiber past my door
