Because of layout of our house relative to the street front and where all the utilities connect, when I can get fibre, it will connect (assuming by over head cable) to a bedroom wall.

In our master bedroom we have a built in wardrobe on the streetside wall which has empty space above it which I thought I could ask for the ?ONT to be placed. I'll sort out power points then I would run ethernet cable from there to switch/router etc at the other end of the house. (or to under the house) , by running cable back down through the cupboard, through the floor and under the house.

(Cant put the ONT inside the wardrobe as it belongs to _her_ and filled to the brim with clothes etc)

So my question really is, does the ONT have flashy lights etc so that would need to build box/cabinet to prevent light pollution. Would this cause heating issues if enclosed ?

Blinking lights at night in bedroom not an acceptable option.

Are there any issues with this arrangement ?

Trouble is you would have to tape the vents as well so possibly over heating will result.

Not really,  the lights are all in a line across the top edge, you could tape them no probs and still leave the vents open,

There are plenty of photos out there of Chorus's ONT, so you can have a look

I have one on my wall and trust me, there is almost as much light coming out through the vents as out of the LED's themselves.

Assuming you are in a Chorus area....
Yes, the ONT has flashing LEDs.
My advice would be to have the Chorus scoper/tech look at the best location and how they can get it there. Chorus may have a suitable way to get the ONT to the switch/router for you.

IMO, you wont want the ONT in a bedroom.
If you enclose it in a box/cabinet it needs to have enough ventilation and meet certain clearance requirements around the ONT (Chorus techs have this info)

I dont know about chorus, but ive seen an install in an UFF area, the ONT etc is enclosed in a box vertically with vents in it, and you can hardly see any of the lights unless ur right on top of it.  Rather genius i thought.

The one I've got is installed in my bedroom and doesn't produce a huge amount of light.

To be fair, at least they aren't blue LEDs, it'd be a bit of a disco if they were.

Another idea to go with the black tape for the OP: could you strategically place a dresser/desk/other furniture in front of the proposed ONT location that would help block any light leakage, without making it hard to plug/unplug connections if/when needed.  (Desk would be best as you'd still be able to crawl underneath to do any checks/etc needed and for ventilation, and wouldn't look out of place in some bedrooms).  Otherwise yeah, see if you convince Chorus to install it in a more appropriate front-side-of-house room/area.

I guess they would also set the scene nicely for Xmas.

Can the ONT be opened up? (Do Chorus allow this as it's their property?) If you were able to unscrew and remove the casing without damaging anything, you could cover the LEDs themselves with some electrical tape. Maybe not the best idea though.

Please don't. It reminds me of another thread where the fiber pigtail breaks because of trying to move the ONT.

We were offered a large grey ventilated cabinet to house the ONT and (possibly) router during the installation. Because our equipment is all in the garage IT cupboard, I didn't go for it.

Here is a picture of a Ultra Fast Fibre install. There is a row of LED's along the bottom which are not as bright as the Chorus ONT. Due to limited space this is the best photo I can offer:
