Hi There,

Was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction with this one.

We have a brand new house which has data cabled throughout, all comes into a control box in the garage. I can then re-patch thInge from the patch panel.

So all is good, the ONT is installed in this control box. I have patched the ONT into one of the ports that goes to my study which is on the other side of the house, here I have my router.

All is working well BUT whenever the wife runs the dryer which is in the garage and on a seperate plug point, my UFB drops out. Ran a few checks and the ONT or my router (in the study) is not loosing power. Just the link between ONT and the study seems to drop out (I think). I have 3 ports going to my study, have tried all of them and same issue.

This only happens when the dryer is running, it drops out on start of the dryer, then randomly every few mins.

Any ideas what could cause this problem? All brand new cabling that was tested, hard for me to get the electricians back if I don't know what to ask them the test.

Thanks

Even though the dryer is on a separate power point. The dryer power point and the ONT power point are probably on the same circuit. Get some long extension cords and use them to plug the ONT into your office power point. Or at least a power point that is a long way from the garage / laundry. As what you need to do is find out if the issue is volt drop or interference on the power cable that supplies the ONT. Or have the network cables between the ONT and office been installed too close to power cables. Meaning they are picking up interference.

Might be a poorly terminated RJ45 also - can you try another outlet?

Thanks guys. Will be trying a couple of the other power points to see if I can isolate it. Hmm should have tried to use a long extension!

Find out what link is dropping.  Your router should have logs.  See what happens if you place the router right next to the ONT in the shed connected via a one meter patch lead and patch your PC (study) into the router

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
